My law professor usually goes to a bar/lounge downtown to grade exams and invites students to come over to get their grades if they want them earlier than when they're posted.

I planned on meeting him today and buying him a celebratory drink, if I had passed the class.

Unfortunately, he won't be doing this today and I have to wait until Thursday to get my grade.

A stove is 5 times the price of one back home, and there is no place to put it in a typical asian kitchen. They don't use stoves, and their kitchen designs are awful.

Wow, I really hate English spelling!

How am I supposed to know that close (the verb) and close (the adjective) don't rhyme?! I had no idea until I tried to sing along to this track, and noticed something was off:



From now on, the adjective is spelled cloce. Because I said so

I don't really agree that they don't rhyme. Would make for a stupid rhyme, but the words do rhyme. Along with 'clothes'.

No, I mean close (the adjective) is pronounced with an /s/ sound, and close (the verb) is pronounced with a /z/ sound.

Yeah, they aren't identical as you found out. I need you close vs. close the door

So apparently my kidneys are crapping out. My eGFR is 83; the average for my age is about 120. :-/

Wow that sucks. Is it a genetic/chronic thing? Or are you acutely ill?

My mom is a dialysis patient.

Well, I do have a high blood pressure that no one has been able to explain to me, so that may be part of it. I'm on a beta blocker for it but half the time it is still pretty high.

No one in my family has had kidney problems.

Yeah kidney probs and high BP go hand in hand. How did you get high BP though? Was your renal function being monitored for as long as you've been diagnosed with hypertension? Would be interesting to know which came first sorta thing.

No one has any idea. All I get is "it's probably hereditary." My dad's BP is sometimes high, but mine has been high consistently since I was in high school. Personally I think it's a bunch of bullshit, that none of these doctors have even bothered to investigate why someone in his twenties who's not fat or diabetic would have consistently high BP.

I wholeheartedly agree. Super shitty.

Have you had an ultrasound on your kidneys? I had high blood pressure at a very young age (hereditary) but just to rule out anything else, they checked my kidneys for pheochromocytoma. Essentially a benign tumor that restricts bloodflow to the kidneys and can send your system all out of whack.

You may want to have that if you haven't already, and also have blood test to check the ratio of renin to aldosterone. All of those can cause high blood pressure, and if you have no history, it's possible that your high bp is a secondary symptom of something else.
