I still staying by my previous statement about low end and I would like to listen to this WIP without a kick to have better sense of your lows lol but again this track with some seriously craft bass line could be really very danger release this year from you man.

Cheers,

Darek

RANN told me i should post in here more, so here's a revision of the previous WIP i posted. went with a less intense bass and diff chord structure and feel. kinda loop-ish at the moment, but will be working on transitions and automation

That sounds pretty cool Kadomony, its got that twang that makes me want to eat aunt jemima syrup, btw your logo looks like "blu shit" no offense mang.

I havent made anything in months, im trying to finish this so I can send it in and forget about it. I cant get the bass or the lead to sit well, I gotta run some more passes.

this is nice, particularly in the break. There are some weird pieces of melodies here and there that dont really fit imo, and i also dont think they add anything to the track

Posted by MSZ on Jan-14-2015 20:53:

I agree, basically had to throw some in though - Moshic remix pack. Totally doesnt sound like the original though. The break is poopoo too.

Unfortunately I have to agree with Paul (evo8) on this - some places I got lost in sub-melody part and couldn't recover quick enough to put it back together lol (if you know what I mean )

Cheers man,

Darek

Awesome Rich. Reminds me of the stuff some higher end clothing stores are playing these days (often a playlist with popular EDM songs).

yeah it kinda sounded like that with those samples appearing a bit off

if you were keeping it id work from the break which i still think is pretty nice, the progression works

Im trying to brute force this so I can hand it in, some dissonance will remain probably, fuck it doe.

Probably what im going to leave it at. Didnt include the breakdown/post but ill leave that the way it was to add contrast and I resampled in some choirs in the ending part, didnt snag that part though.

Posted by deegee on Jan-15-2015 07:57:

Either ditch the vocal samples at the beginning or push them down in the mix. As-is, they sound like there's a great track and someone plopped them down on top.

Other than that, I really like this, musically speaking (someone with more knowledge can talk about your mix); it just needs a little more oomph, something that progresses from one phrase to the next and has movement to it.

Good track, don't get me wrong; just needs some little tweaks to push it over the edge into great. Love the bassline.

I agree, maybe try and compress them harder into the mix so that they blend well. Right now they feel stacked on top as if they don't belong there.

Also I'm not fond of the dissonance myself.

Thanks! Need to add some diffusion and lower the levels a bit, gotcha. Its pretty impressive how loud they sound lol. Definitely not close to my best work, just trying to get this one out the door, more work ahead. #shitproducerlife

Great sounds here, you always have good individual sounds, I'd be interested to know your go to synth (I could tweak forever with the synths I have and not achieve those choir sounds for example).

Really like the kick and the unusual sound and timing of the bass although the dissonance does deter me some. The kik n bass alone have the makings of a great techno track.

Decent groove. As you say you have work to do, if you are interested in my input I would suggest a shorter less loud style of open hat to help the groove along and also really tight drum sounds overall to compliment the bass. The clap is nice n tight. Like the little almost imperceptible vocals in the background.

Posted by Storyteller on Jan-15-2015 10:55:

In addition to Richard's remarks I would go for a more donk-ish percussive bass you hear in deephouse often these days. Will add groove and fits better with current style.

Thanks to you, Andy, Evo, Darek and Storyteller for the feed. I think it needs quite a bit of 'taming'. I plan to strip out some of the vocals, layer them with darker more natural atmospheric and church reverb vocals. I am perhaps going to make the open filter main trancey synth a bit 'cooler' and less 'bubble-gum / Mario' sounding iykwim.

As I have the structure and everything worked out it will be one I can finish.

Right, here we go then. This is going to take absolutely stupid amount of work to get finished, especially because I'm experimenting with some things I've never used before. It'll probably end up being several different parts.

I can see this as set open type track, but for this to work you will need to lay down top notch sounds because style wise it isn't anything out of the ordinary. For example a not so obvious bass and kik sound. Knowing you you might well pull it off.

I didn't feed back on this until now as I needed a few listens over the days.
It's definitely the case that you can hear the analogue sonic goodness in here, but for me to enjoy it more I need to here it mixed better (as you say it's early days with it, you're just getting the basics down), in particular the removal of the 200 - 400 hz boxy / boomy freqs.

One thing with this type of production I would suggest is not do end up with a 'noodle in a gear shop' result which all too often this type of track ends up resembling.
I want to hear some proper motifs of some sort, some sort of cohesive work rather than nice sounding bass sequence with some fx sounds added on. This is what will set it apart from the many 'noodling' session type tracks out there.

When feeding back to you I know you have very definite ideas and a stubborn strong personality, so I feel like I'm the boy trying to give advice to the master, lol!

Thanks. It probably won't end up being club music at all, and it might all be just a part of a larger whole. I've got some pretty wild ideas for it.

I feel like the past 10 years of producing have been just a practice phase and I'm on the brink of discovering "that something" I've been trying to find.

that pad in the background just doesnt fit with the bass in some parts but anyway......

cheers man, will take that into consideration. drums arent mixed or processed at the moment, but ill shorten up that bigger hihat and check it out

that's what i had in my first version, but it was really intense for the groove. i'll work on trying out some other donk-ish stuff and see if i can get a better fit. thanks!

Here's something I did today, a little different, but it's def. still work in progress. First track that I've recorded like this, and also the first 100% made in Live. Lolpad edition :P Anyways yeah, the intro is kinda whack, I'd been trying to keep the track under 10 mins, and well, the intro is not the best one Ive performed, but all the other tries ending in complete failure, so I guess this will have to do haha :P

i'm liking this! great warehouse jackin vibe

Just my 2cents, I'll try to be picky and you can take what you will.

The kick is releasinga little bit of static, distortion maybe, a tiny bit dont know if you caught it. I dont know if you're eq dipping the bass or its the cut off, I feel it could extend further a little bit and hit more mids(it will give them a less boxed-in feel and could benefit the track imo). In relation to the mids, maybe the vocals are cutting into that section I was referring to a little too much, I think you can eq them a little better, they're mostly great though however, they are hitting the threshold of agitation/discomfort. I digg the track though, nice one.
