Pretty rare for them to come up this way.

How do you not know that?

Cause my car looks like this under the hood:

What's the big deal? The coolant still goes in the reservoir - with a blue cap - closest to the front of your car.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a label I see on the windshield wiper fluid reservoir?

When they returned the car and you thanked them, did they say "it was my privilege"?

Yep...but I couldn't see it in the dark of my garage. Re-read my other post.

Anyway, I'm not arguing against my stupidity here. This is by far the dumbest thing I have done in some time. I deserve to be berated, lol.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Jan-11-2013 18:07:

Would it really have damaged anything, though? I'm actually asking. The blue window washer fluid is basically just water with some blue shit and alcohol in it. Radiators can handle some pretty tough liquids for flushing/cleaning, so it seems to me that the worst that could happen is you get a fair amount of steam while it all burns out.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Jan-11-2013 18:14:

No probably not...but why take the chance? If I did run the engine and then had the lines flushed, any time in the future that the engine light comes on - in my mind I'm going to think "Fuck! It was that goddamn washer fluid!" And even if it has nothing to do with it, I will never really know and that will piss me off, lol.

Plus, like I said it didn't cost me anything to have the reservoir drained - prob would have charged me if they had to flush the entire system.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Jan-11-2013 18:18:

I think a radiator flush is about $10. Fucking Jew!

Posted by Silky Johnson on Jan-11-2013 18:20:

Also lol @ "It was my privilege"....didn't see that. Yes I'm pretty sure they were thinking that, hahaha.

When I dropped my car off, 3 different people came out from the shop - probably to get a look at the asshole who put windshield fluid in the coolant tank, lol. I asked if they could please top up my windshield fluid while they were at it and the guy lol'ed mightily.

Lol!! At VW it's probably 5 times as much! It's not the money though - it's the knowledge of literally having to pay for an easily avoidable mistake. Salt in the wound, y'know?

Did they all have raging erections?

Posted by Silky Johnson on Jan-11-2013 18:24:

I'm pretty sure they did, yeah. Especially the one who handed me my keys and said "There's no charge."

Posted by srussell0018 on Jan-11-2013 18:25:

omg I just came

Posted by citric_acid on Jan-11-2013 18:27:

washer fluid is methanol with some detergent (know this because i used to run my can on a water meth system and would just use washer fluid instead because it was cheaper) the methanol isnt bad but the detergent kinda sucks in your radiator

if it was just a little it wouldnt have done much harm but was probably best you got it drained. I wouldnt really fret over the mistake, my cousin put diesel in his car when he first started driving, at least you didnt mess up like that

No wonder mechanics charge so much, people are fucking idiots.

Glad I can work on my own car to avoid that shit.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Jan-11-2013 18:31:

Hahah yeah...no I put a LOT in, lol. I'm sure I had an oblivious shit eating grin on my face the whole time, too. I wish somebody saw me.

Posted by srussell0018 on Jan-11-2013 18:31:

The worst I've done was taking my car to the shop because the check engine light was on. I made sure all of my fluids were good, but when I got there I was told that it was because my gas cap was tightened all the way.

In high school, when I first got my license, it was like pulling teeth to get permission to take my mom's car to school. The first time I was allowed, I got in at the end of the day and the car wouldn't start. I freaked out thinking "Great! Just the proof my mom needs to bar me from ever taking the car again!" so I ran to the auto shop and told the teacher what happened/asked if he could help. He just had this knowing look, and he asked if my car was in park or not. I felt a wave of embarrassment wash over me as I realized that yes, I forgot to put my car in park after I turned the ignition off that morning. Herp de derp!
