Good Lead, i like, very atmospheric but the rest feels like it doesn't fit with it. If it did it can sound groundbreaking, good luck mate.

This one climaxes in several places abruptly, so don't have the volume up too loud despite some relatively serene parts.

i like the beat. its deliciously 80s. break at 2:14 was epic.
but the bass pad needs to be changed. sounds way too cheap compared to the rest of the track. get something softer with more bass and warmth in it. and I'd definetely do like some pwm automation on the chip lead, to make it pop even more. just push that width to the max on the long notes.. the tiny fat snare needs to be louder.. and maybe like add some soft gating to the bass pad half way in or something, i dunno..

really enjoyed that, thought I was watching Friday the13th. Very epic. NICE!

This is so incredibly civil. Well done all, well done.

TRANCELOVER - very musical track and excelent lead. Maybe change up that marching snare in the latter parts as it sounded cheap - better to use more interesting sounds maybe with some accoustic sounding drums hits in there.

Curious what you guys think, not really a genre, just doing my thing...

This is one of my favorites I have heard from you. I like all of the synths, the only possible change so far is maybe try another snare/clap, but the current one is OK. Also, I think a few more atmospheres and such could be added. If you listen to a track like Adam K and Soha - Twilight, there is a lot of subtle things going on in the background which give depth to progressive style tracks.

Thanks all for the several comments on my WIP. I took them into consideration, as well as made some other changes. I am OK with the bassline for now. I tried some changes on it but nothing really worked. Overall, I like where this one is going, I think it is going to be my favorite track I have made yet.

A soothing yet groovy one to nodd along to.

I'd use a different tighter clap/snare and kick, maybe quite an unusual minimal kick would suit. Also the open hat could be more special and subbtle and not so loud.

I would tend to agree with trancelover about adding subbtle background pads / fx but I know well you are trying to keep things stripped back to thier essential esscence and not over complicating.

ThnX guys, good feedback, i'll take it with me and see if i can improve

Posted by Richard Butler on Mar-20-2013 11:22:

Do you think this one is worth finishing or not? Be honest as I'd hate to waste time on it if not good.

Cheers

Finish it. Don't endlessly fuck with it .......finish it.

Posted by Rodri Santos on Mar-20-2013 22:54:

Red Dawn - So you are with dnb right now... i like the strings a lot, percussion/snare... the whole dnb thing is what doesn't work yet i'd try a more powerful snare and shakers very promising.

This is a new experiment i don't feel very motivated with this track in fact it's getting to long to finish it. For me seems a bit crowded like everything i do i am thinking of removing some stuff.

This is a great groove man. I don't feel it's overcrowded - in fact I like how you manage to work in several percs & perc FX. Also the kick and bass work really well together. The only thing I crave is more variation as the track goes on. There's a lot of adding elements, but not as much subbing stuff. Take some of those awesome delayed bleeps, drop them, and make me miss them for a while. You've got me reeled in, but I keep waiting for something unexpected. I'm not accustomed to this genre, so I could be talking out my ass.

BTW I decided to hop back on the forum solely BC this WIP thread got me excited about producing again after hearing all the refreshing stuff you guys are working on.

I don't have a WIP myself I just want to leave feedback!

imo this is the most cohesive piece of music i've heard from you. the added percussion hard panned at 3:35 does feel a bit overwhelming but it doesnt take away from me enjoying this. you could sit the entire mix except kick/bass back a db or two and this would be very, very solid imo.

Posted by Rodri Santos on Mar-21-2013 13:57:

thanks for compliments i just had some extra work to do on the breakdowns filtering the bass and this things looking for more contrast in the drops and a vocal loop to act as a hook.

this is cool from about 4 mins 30 onward? theres a nice little 2 note thing going on there, couldnt hear it in the earlier section - really grooves along nicely!!

if you took from 4:30 to the end and made your track from that youd be on to something imo

Posted by Richard Butler on Mar-21-2013 15:37:

Rodri that's your best work so far, get it finished.

Thanks for the comments on red dawn - tbh it's not really dnb, but in any event your comment got me motivated to make better dnb beats on other tracks as I haven't cracked the drum side just yet.

Great thread this fellas, eh.

C'mon Looney, get some shit up.

At the same time, the more minimal approach, with a few big elements is sometimes the best route.

I know I recently posted in this thread, but I have another one I have spent two days on. Nothing is final on it right now and I will probably add some more minor elements later but I wanted to finish an entire 1st draft. I am going for festival house music in this one. I want it short and drop driven for a general audience. I actually spent more time than usual getting the programming and arrangement down. The part leading up from the melodic breakdown section to the bassline drop was tough to bridge but I think I am happy with the general layout now. Any feedback is appreciated!

Posted by Richard Butler on Mar-22-2013 12:44:

Trancelover - fantastic breaks - what a melo apart from the 'off key' part (a taste thing probably).

Really cohesive effective structure and elements.

1 thing to work on imo - the drops. They are fine but I think you will get more bang for the buck by layering that bass lead thing with an ever changing syncy / dubby sound to keep things engaging.

Posted by Rodri Santos on Mar-22-2013 15:50:

About the mainstage dutch house:

First of all i see a phrasing issue here, that breakdown should start around the 1 minute mark to match the 64 bars most dutch house djs follow as it is can work if you know in advance that have to press play at 32 but it's better to follow the standards.

Then i don't like the sound design this is probably because i don't like the electroish leads but what i am sure is that they have to be more powerful, add some release and layer it with something like this:

Check the drop at ~3:00 i am not sure how that is done i think it's a hard sidechain with some predelay but that could add some body to your stabs.

Percussion is fine don't touch it and breakdowns work.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

And now i've added some changes following your advice making the track more fitting to techno standards.

Sorry to post another so soon but I wanna finish this one as I'm in the mood for it right now and don't want to let the motivation slip by.

Where would you take this track after this? Go to just bass n drums or what?
