Harmless is a bit specific, as it doesn't have layers in a traditional way, I played with it a bit and ran your bassline through a spectrum analyzer, and I believe its the detune slider that is causing a sine-like sound at 185hz, or F#, while the bassline is mostly at 62hz(B).

Modifying the detune value completely transforms the sound and ruins its character unfortunately. Filtering the low end and replacing it with a different sub as Evo8 suggested does sound like the best solution in this case, yeah.

Thanks for your time, man! Yeah, filtering sub with eq will do.

I started making this trance thingy, but before I go on into arrangement I'd like to use your critical ears regarding the mix, I am struggling a bit as its pretty busy, any tips would be appreciated.

There is nothing on the master except for an utility making everything below 200hz mono and a 30hz low cut.

The bass feels particularly weird to me and I wonder if there is something I can do or I should just replace it completely.

Here is a 16 bar section.

i think the mix is ok but the kick and snare/clap arent really grooving with the rest of the track imo

I would probably try cutting the low end of the bass some more, it sounds quite boomy (on headphones at least) and makes the whole track drag. The whole track needs a bit more room to breathe, so to speak.

I would either turn the kick down or use a rounder one, as right now it seems to overpower everything else. I really love the percussions on this, and if this was my track I'd expand on that idea (but then again that's what I always do).

So this is one of the two tracks I'm working on now. This was actually a complete accident - I was just messing around with some 808 samples and just... happened.

Can't find much to say about this as the style is very alien to me(perhaps thats just how the genre is supposed to be?) The chords don't sit well with everything else at all to me, again it could just be a matter of taste, chords sound very dark to me and the beat seems overly enthusiastic and its a really strange mix. Mixdown and all is fine.

Yeah, that's a bit of a personal quirk of mine. I like to create a slight feeling of unease even on the happier tracks. The complete track underlines that even more

I think I'm actually almost done with this one(first one in 2 years!)

Took care of the bass and replaced the kick, clap and bass.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Edit: url change

great potential, i wanted the pads to kinda come in and lift the whole track up
the first 2 bass notes in the sequence really set the tone

not a fan of kicks like that, plenty of click but no oomph

I will do some feedback tonight, but in the meantime here's a banger for ya. REally went for the break melodies.

This is what I came up with lately, there isn't much going on yet, I can't think of a lead.

Any opinions on both the mix and the musical idea would be greatly appreciated!

Nice flowing quality - looking forward to a lead being added - I think a wanderimg complex arp

I really like this one, it would make great film score stuff -something moody with a guy driving through the night

Wow

Id love to remix this take you got going on here - by which I mean add some synths/ vox etc

Yeah, I can see that scenario.

As luck would have it, this will be coming out soon-ish as a part of a 3-track EP.

I love that strange, quirky melody, but the percs might be a bit too generic to go with it.

I absolutely love those drums and bass, but the lead... well, not so much. I could easily see this as a dirty tribal drum monster without a lead at all.

Not really feeling this one mate - bass is like Eye Of The Tiger - Rocky film, and the drums sound too generic

Posted by evo8 on Feb-20-2017 20:04:

thanks for the comments! im trying to keep the drums simple but this is challenging as they can sound boring or generic yes
eye of the tiger

heres another one, not really sure how to develop it but i like the sound anyway
