Originally posted by Vernon Wanderer Harmless is a bit specific, as it doesn't have layers in a traditional way, I played with it a bit and ran your bassline through a spectrum analyzer, and I believe its the detune slider that is causing a sine-like sound at 185hz, or F#, while the bassline is mostly at 62hz(B). Modifying the detune value completely transforms the sound and ruins its character unfortunately. Filtering the low end and replacing it with a different sub as Evo8 suggested does sound like the best solution in this case, yeah. |
I started making this trance thingy, but before I go on into arrangement I'd like to use your critical ears regarding the mix, I am struggling a bit as its pretty busy, any tips would be appreciated.
There is nothing on the master except for an utility making everything below 200hz mono and a 30hz low cut.
The bass feels particularly weird to me and I wonder if there is something I can do or I should just replace it completely.
Here is a 16 bar section.

So this is one of the two tracks I'm working on now. This was actually a complete accident - I was just messing around with some 808 samples and just... happened.
Can't find much to say about this as the style is very alien to me(perhaps thats just how the genre is supposed to be?) The chords don't sit well with everything else at all to me, again it could just be a matter of taste, chords sound very dark to me and the beat seems overly enthusiastic and its a really strange mix. Mixdown and all is fine.

I think I'm actually almost done with this one(first one in 2 years!)
Took care of the bass and replaced the kick, clap and bass.
Any thoughts appreciated!
Edit: url change

I will do some feedback tonight, but in the meantime here's a banger for ya. REally went for the break melodies.

Originally posted by Vernon Wanderer After producing for a commercial EDM group for a while, I lost the will to live and got a huge writers block for two years. I'm now trying to get back in but I'm having a hard time escaping the 4 chord pop progression formula. This is what I came up with lately, there isn't much going on yet, I can't think of a lead. Any opinions on both the mix and the musical idea would be greatly appreciated! |

Originally posted by evo8 thanks dude! something like this for the sub note: i boosted the drums at 80hz to give the kick a bit more oomph - also sent the drums to some very short reverb - 4K compressor on the master just to even everything out a tad |

Originally posted by Richard Butler I really like this one, it would make great film score stuff -something moody with a guy driving through the night |
