Well, we had to:

  1. Find out who the hell wired me the money;
  2. Find out if he really didn't intend to send it to me;
  3. Get his authorisation to cancel the transfer;
  4. Get my authorisation to cancel the transfer.
Doing this under 48 hours was quite a feat, as I had never heard of this guy before and they're responsible enough not to do anything unilaterally.

Course, the big hole in the system is still where all the accounting and so on is off-shored to some developing country where they pay them 350US a month to handling billions of dollars and wonder why customer info and cash is at risk

That's exactly the problem. You need people who understand the country they're dealing with and generally whilst some Indian call centres are ok, most aren't. BT for example, are the biggest liars around. They tell you something to get rid of you and when you try to follow it up, they deny all knowledge of it even claiming you didn't call them (despite your ball proving otherwise)

It's fully hit/miss with the Indian call folks, IMO. I've dealt with some complete muppets that haven't had a clue about what they're supposed to be dealing with, but then a few people here and there have been totally awesome, and really knew their shit (and sorted out mine) - Not just a "follow the script" type of engagement at all.

This is one of the most depressing deficiancies because literally all you need to do is go outside in the sun for like 10 or 15min max per day.

I don't even have it...

In most of the U.S., UVB levels are too low for your body to produce much vitamin D at all from October to April.

Things may be different for those of you living near the ozone hole, though.

Posted by Joss Weatherby on Feb-04-2012 09:03:

That is true.

Also I take a supplement almost every day. I got hypochondria in 2010 and thought I had MS for like 2 weeks lol.

I'm from Atlanta, and live in LA, so I've never technically had the seasonal problem with Vitamin D (other than shitty, rainy Georgia winters). That said, the window in the winter here is still very short and comes during the time of day when one is most likely to be at work, so watching diet and what-not is still the best idea.

I think the problem with the ones that I've come across is that they're so automatic in following the script. They're almost not allowed to think about the issues but it leads to bad service. You've got to be able to improvise, use your initiative and not as you say read a script. It doesn't help that they also struggle with many of our accents as we can with a lot of theirs. Imagine a full on geordie, scouser or irish person speaking to one

Geordie accent is kind of neat.

Gah, why did I have to get stuck with the one accent that nobody finds alluring or interesting? Life is so unfair.

You're Californian!?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_American

The most boring accent on earth.

Posted by Lira on Feb-04-2012 21:32:

I got it wrong on purpose

My sister would kill to have your accent! And I really like the way you guys say "squirrel". That's right, "squirrel".

It sounds like you'll choke on your tongue at any moment.

Posted by Vector A on Feb-04-2012 21:36:

Yeah, laugh it up, everybody.

Posted by Lira on Feb-04-2012 21:48:

Here, I gave it a try:

I tried to say a few more things, but I always switch back to my original Saffa Mockney

Posted by srussell0018 on Feb-04-2012 21:54:

Sounds Dutch.

Posted by Vector A on Feb-04-2012 21:55:

"With" is where it really disintegrated. "Weeth." Also the terminal "-th" sound is way off. You have the "-th" from "lithe" when it should be the "-th" from "thin."

Btw, I feel fine.

Posted by Lira on Feb-04-2012 21:58:

Haha, really?! Dutch?

I find it really hard to nail down the General American accent, actually. Somewhere in my mind it's mixed up with the broken English I was taught during my teens (hence the "weethe").

Wait, I want to give it another try now! Is there anything else I should fix?

Posted by Vector A on Feb-04-2012 22:00:

I'll listen again and give a rundown...

Posted by Vector A on Feb-04-2012 22:04:

Something happens between "we" and "are," I think you blended the "e" and "a" vowels too much. Need a more distinct "a" in there.

The "ai" part in "failed" should be longer and more like a long "a." Sounds kind of like "felled" now.

"Up" is not quite right. Needs more schwa.

I think that's it.

Posted by Lira on Feb-04-2012 22:13:

Wow, this is more difficult than I thought! Is it better now?

Posted by Lira on Feb-04-2012 22:17:

Note to self: Learn to speak American
