^^^You guys are crazy!^^^

Happy New Year All!

So, a little note behind this.
A few days ago I was seeking inspiration through my old folders of quirky bits and chunks of music from days past.
Nothing seemed to stand out but I remembered seeing an old sample pack(which was so old I couldn't even tell you where I got it) that had some cool guitar one shots.
Started fiddling around and came upon one particular sample that stuck with me through out the day and eventually landed me pulling up my guitar and over dubbing it into Ableton.
It's a uppedy riff but what followed I did not expect as I just went with the following lead.
What was especially funny was that I was humming a lead vox chop. And I actually liked it enough to possibly put some vox chops of my own. (Oh gawd)
No, this is not my normal type of track but oddly enough it interested me enough to keep going.
Still undeveloped but the composition and arrangement of tones I am liking right off the bat. Hell, this is only really 45 minutes of work, even with 8 tracks of layering on the lead.
Contemplating shortening by 4 bars the intro but otherwise to my surprise it is coming together somewhat fast and complete...this is what I got, whatya think...to cheesy? lol

I think this has big potential

just add a short quirky vocal that appears now n then

G00d work mate

I dont care if things are supposedly cheesy

This could be the 2nd track to my new EP but it's just ok, nothing great tbh

Oh snap Richard...Super chill. Freakin really love this. I have to say, the second half of the track didnt flow (2:24) as well for me but never the less...brilliant!

Posted by Mel David on Jan-13-2019 06:47:

Yeah F3B is crying for a vocal. I that a guitar sample? Have you tried expanding on the guitar lick so it's not repeating as much?

Ocean Roll's sub bass line is just sublime!

Its catchy

around 1.08 I'd think of bringing in a little square wave plinky plonky lead. Now that tech talk Rann would be proud of!

Thanks for the comments you two guys

Nice job Rich. Great sounds, my downstairs neighbours probably don't like the kick I agree with Phil on the flow in second part.

Starts nice, mix is nice, maybe you should expand on guitar as Mel suggested. That big commercial trance sound later is not my cup of tea.

This could be close to finish

Pretty sweet work Richard, nice chillout atmosphere are were able to create around those jazzy chords lol - at first I was thinking that bass is a bit too much pushed forward but at the and, I think, it blends nicely together with the rest

But one think (if I can recommend) this pluck coming at at 2:21 you may have to layer with different sounds to be more sophisticated lol.

Cheers,

Darek

You are making nice improvement man, every time you upload new WIP I can hear persistent progress in your technical production skills

Going back to your track - I can hear the need for your drums to come more forward and make more variations in there patterns to glue together this production.

Cheers,

Darek

Phil, I can't put my fingers around this track - from one perspective I like this melodic idea but from another, I don't hear anything driving this WIP enough to make me move with it (if you know what I mean).

I would start with this guitar (if this is a guitar?) sound at 0:05 sec mark - I would make sure that this sounds really authentic guitar sounds as this is a part of your primary riff elements. Later on (and here is the part I really have a problem identifying an issue) I would try to find a way of clearly defined rhythm/groove/vibe in your production.

It is only my view on this WIP so please don't take this too serious if you disagree

Cheers,

Darek

Here is my humble WIP in Funk/Disco style so at this point may work may not be a perfect reflection of this style but at lease I will take on this production challenge

Give it a run (I know is short at this point) and let me know if I met this Funk/Disco standards

Cheers,

Darek

Darek,

So ,the version I uploaded for some reason had the sub off. I as well didnt have a lot of channels on for some reason.
The new one has those "driven" areas addressed.
As for the guitar area...The first guitar you hear is a sample and the second guitar (the scratch strumming) is me.
What I believe you are hearing is the "tube" effect...I could be wrong. Or,were you referring to the progression of the notes?

Another note...I am most certainly sold on this being a vocal track. I am also composing the track in such a manner, meaning that the vox will start at :08 (yes, on it's own it sounds a little off on the beat count, but there is a reason)

The Arp, for now, is a placeholder as I am still auditioning tones but I am thinking it could be a good replacement for a lead. Thus letting the vox stand out more as it is going to need a pretty powerful voice.

I like this and I get that funk vibe but I believe (and guessing here) that you might get more of a punchier affect with a tempo increase?

OK, with your vox on top of the rest, it may actually sound pretty cool but I will have to hear how this will be done and how your vocal would be place in this production -> on more think Phil, can you tell me what kind of sound/instrument is coming in at 0:09 mark?, doeasn't sounds like, hmmm, how to say it, like the one I would use (or like a place holder for something more suitable for this quality product).

Yeah, I started with 108 and could go a bit higher if that would make a sense (from vibe/riff perspective) but I will make this decision a bit later when I get this funky electric guitar part to it, on top of that I would like to add some more variation to my bass line patterns as this will help me with my funky/disco vibe

Cheers,

Darek

Hey Phil,

How is your EQ looks like - on my end this track sounded dry and is asking for some compensation in mid-low/low end.

Cheers,

Darek
