You're allergic to Selma?

He didn't say it was my fault, he said he was blaming me.

That's his way of flirting with me.

Oh, that Renzo. Such a cheeky little devil, isn't he?

So cheeky.

mornings. time for market today Stu, you must miss buying fresh fruit & veg that hasn't been tenderised by the heat?

Sun is actually good for most fruit and vege growing. The sun is the bright thing in the sky, behind all the clouds, if you were wondering.

And Australia has excellent produce, thank you very much. You might want to sample some before getting on any kind of high-horse

And most of our markets are air-conditioned

Posted by Lilith on Aug-05-2010 07:32:

That's England though, the further north you go, the worse the food quality.

You could have just stopped there

Posted by Lilith on Aug-05-2010 07:40:

There is good fresh food there, but it tends to be expensive or you grow your own and trade it with your neighbours like my nan did... by the time you get to where Ian is, you're probably trading pot you grew yourself for a big fat bag of crack.

I actually found a place in town that I never knew existed. Some of the menu sounds yummy

Roast rack of Stockley Park spring lamb carved onto sauté spring greens
with rosemary and Staffordshire cheese layered potatoes
£17.50

Aged Bromley Hurst steak topped with courgettes, tomatoes, shallots and
a herb crust with a black pepper cream
Rib eye £17.50
Fillet £21.95

Roast extra aged Bromley Hurst Rib of beef on the bone with a shallot and
red wine reduction and fresh Yorkshire puddings
(2 persons to share. Please allow up to 45 minutes cooking time)

Pan-fried fillet of sea bass towered with locally cured bacon with
baby mushrooms and chives in white wine cream
£16.95

nom. And I use the market because it's as fresh as you'll get because supermarkets buy in & freeze or fridge stuff until it's past it's best. However, I was massively impressed with some of the stores in canada, the way they handled the fresh stuff. It was awesome.

Posted by Sushipunk on Aug-05-2010 07:57:

I was going to comment on how exorbitantly expensive that sounds, but then reminded myself what the Pound is worth these days

And once again, our fresh produce is awesome here! Get some perspective

Just watched Dr Horribles Sing Along Blog for the first time...fucking love it!

Might look into The Guild as well since its supposedly just as good.

Fucking. I still haven't watched that!

Posted by Ian on Aug-05-2010 08:21:

it sounds nice though there's a huge stigma about british food which makes me laugh because a lot of it comes from the yanks who aren't exactly renowned for 'good' food, just fast food, but there's a lot of good stuff around if you look past your macdonalds and kfc and a lot more gifted chefs than we had 10 years ago even.

All i know about fresh produce in 'hot' places is that in spain it's the one thing that lets itself down a lot, everything seems 'mushy' due to the heat and them not storing them well. Shame really.

Posted by Lilith on Aug-05-2010 08:30:

The English do have a fairly unhealthy love for fast food as well that is probably on par with the yanks for the sheer amount they eat and just how spectacularly crap it is.

Its sort of about 3, edging towards lower end of 4-star restaurant prices here, depending on where you go, but we do have comparatively better meat and at a much cheaper price.
Mostly because Australia didn't spend the last 40 years driving their primary producers into the ocean... like some

Posted by Ian on Aug-05-2010 08:33:

I admit, a lot of brits eat fast food & I don't see the point in it. It's so unhealthy that it's pointless to put into your body. I just believe in cooking with fresh ingredients, it's so much better knowing what you're putting into your body. I do eat the very occasional takeout burger or something but from a place in town where they actually make them to order from lean minced steak and the flavour is 1000x better. People are generally lazy though everywhere so you'll always get those who eat nothing but takeout.

Can't comment on Sydney prices, though I'm sure they're higher than up here.

You're quite correct on the quality of our meat, it's excellent, and exported all over the world. Prices have been jacked up for the last few years though, due to the drought [etc.], and it's unfortunate that they're not likely to drop. I've heard that lamb in particular is likely to keep going up and up

Posted by Lilith on Aug-05-2010 09:13:

Lamb is getting very pricey, which is annoying because I prefer it to beef in some ways. My uncle is prone to giving us half a cow every now and then so we always end up with more than we can ever use!
Sydney is just overall damn expensive.

Well I think its great, pasture grazed poll hereford steers are yummy! Honeyrabbit gets on the verge of mutiny though if I don't cook something with chicken in it at least once a week.

Of course you think it's great! Who wouldn't?

Honeyrabbit needs some cooking classes, by the sound of it. Or some 'nudging' into the kitchen (and somewhere to place a laptop for easy reference to recipes :/)

So I've just got the rest of the music for my mix, hoping to have a go at it this weekend and if we're lucky might have it uploaded then too, depends on how well it all goes tbh. Not sure if I Should do 2 or 3 1 hr mixes or one longer one again? any suggestions
