Yeah, it seemed like there were at least two Jennifers in every class when I was going to school.
Of course, it was much the same experience for me: at one point I even played on a soccer team where three other guys had the same name as I did, lol. My parents certainly weren't bucking the trends. But my first name is my dad's middle name, so maybe it was that rather than just the popularity.
I went to school with a kid called Brain. We thought he was a bit of a show off, but it turned out his parents were dyslexic.

Originally posted by Trance-MB There is an annual topic at a national radio show over here. Two DJ's made it up, it's called "Schaamnaam", "Shame name" and it's really funny. They look for the most funny names of people. Here are some: Lira, see how far your Dutch brings you Bennie Thuis _____________ "I'm not home" when "translated". 2008: Stanley Messie ______ "Stanley knife" when "translated" "messie" like a tiny knife 2009: Fokje Modder _______ "Fuck y'r mother" when "translated", Actually "modder" is dirt in Dutch 2010: Con Domen _________ obvious -en = -s "translated" 2012: Hendy Keppy _______ "handicap (py)" like "tiny handicap". Also one of my favorites: Justin Kees "Just in case" |

And now for the boys:
There's less variability here... but it's quite telling that for a number of years the most common name in Texas was - wait for it - Jose!
I was going to ask you if you have one of Brazil but I assume everywhere south of Texas goes from Miguel to Jose.

But, for the love of God, don't ever call a Brazilian José by the Spanish pronunciation. He's likely to feel insulted by "Hoe-say", so just say "Zhoo-ze(p)" (you're not supposed to pronounce the "p", but pretend there is just so you get the vowel right).
