arrangement feedback

Hey guys,

been away for a little bit, seems everytime I get going with music life gets f$#kn busy which is annoying.

Anyway, ive had this song sitting in my machine for a while and yesterday decided to mess with a few aspects I was never really happy with. Im after arrangement and sound design feedback, not mix at this stage.

thanks!

I prefer the second part which starts with the first break, you should built the whole track round that IMO, it's catchy! The big synth may be could be side chained some more so it really swells in and out.

Thx for feedback on mine, I will get to work on it.

PS - I added a lead and made a few other changes to this one, thx for the advice Darek;

i like the bass and some of the supporting elements, dont like that lead or the way it progresses really!

Some muddy loop I made the other day on some 7$ headphones, dont really feel like cleaning it up. Its nice to track on shitty gear, mix not so much.

I'm pretty pleased with how this came out, added some more vocals etc. Added a massive lead as per Dariuz' feedback. hope you like!
I reckon it's done if you guys agree.

Any tracks you wanna post up guys, I love this part of the forum where all our fiddling comes together as track.

I'm prob outta key like always but I have a crescendo melody at the end. I know there's no white noise or crashes and sweep, i'll add them later when i'm done.

Well, as far as intro concern -> nice work man even with all of those bass lines layers lol but I would expect (around 1:25 mark) to finally hear some melodic development being created. I think I just know your main weakness man, it is creating a melodic part/s in your work - so at this point don't know how to help you man as this probably "the must have" thing in music production, your "ears" are your "eyes" in really live, without it you can exist but it is not an easy road to take - if you know what I mean, but remember "never give up" man as lots of things you can learn to be good in

Thank you Darek, what if I add hints of the crescendo melody at the 1:25 My ears are telling me the same thing. One thing I noticed is that the climax has no support through out the whole intro. I wonder if it will be final ingredient, cheers. I'll post my opinion on your work asap.

So, after some thought about my older track "Babylon" (lol some of you guys know about it) I finally decided to rework it massively as I wasn't particularly happy about progression and melodic vibe in it.

Also since I 'm participating in this thread right from beginning I decided to upload and share with you guys my progress before it hits the street - some vocal parts are from Amy and my track "Hearts on Fire" which should be out soon also.

Aww I'm really liking this. Reminds me deadmau5 of faxing berlin bass. Mix down is very nice and when the vocals come its just hits the spot, great arrangement. Good job on this one bro.

Made some adjustments. It was more complex on making the parts so i guess what it takes to sound unique.

Shux I pushed a key during exportation LOL.

This is for me your best track, everything is good and well done, nice vocal stabs etc, nice flow, now you are 'danger' man in 'commercial field', lol.

You tend to keep the bass to an offset which really helps with a nice mix I think. One or two of the white noise sweeps are slightly loud.
Lovely synth work.

Around 1.38 a very 'middy / muddy' sound is introduced which is swamping what was a clear mix.

Looking forward to seeing where to take it melody wise. Watch the click on your arp there.

I don't think I ever heard the previous version(s), but I like this one a lot (and, no not just because of Amie). Her vocal sample is cool, although it will be very recognizable once Hearts on Fire is released - not sure that it's a problem, though, just sayin'. Anyway, cool groove, nice mix. No crits here. Definitely one of my favorites from you, Darek.

I like the drive and the dark energy in this one. The dark pads and plucks sound good, but it tends to get a bit muddy by 2/3rds of the way through. You might to filter off a bit more of the lows/low mids in the plucks and pads. I haven't heard a lot of your stuff, but this is by far my favorite from you.

Posted by cryophonik on May-19-2015 16:24:

So, here's a track we're just finalizing. I was working on some new sounds for a Virus bank last week and while I was creating this pluck sound, I came up with the basic progression. A few hours later, I turned it into a song with melody, and sent it off to Avonlea for lyrics. We recorded it over the weekend and I'm putting the final touches on the vocals this evening (yeah, I know they still need some work). Anyway, it's probably too commercial/poppy for most of you, but I could use some feedback on the mix.

Posted by Richard Butler on May-19-2015 17:23:

Dave mix wise I would offer the following;

+ The drums are a little quiet even though it's more poppy, although I'd say it's still edm personally

+ Perhaps have the synth reduce in volume some more whenever a vocal event is present. Side chain the pluck to the drums - I know that's a cliched bit of feedback though

+ The snare slightly clashes with the pluck especially when you open the pluck filters. A bit nit picky.

+ on certain notes the bass is clashing / whirring / flamming (whatever)with something. Example > at 1.06

The track flows easily, wouldn't mind if you changed the pluck up for another sound (or morph into one) here n there to add some further interest. Nice work. Great to see u wander in here to the dark side of the forum

Got some nice flow in it Dave and with Avonlea vocal on top of it creates really sweet vibe (and catchy lol).

If any suggestion I could give you my friend it would be at 1:36 mark I would change this pluck to a pad for 16 bars (or so) to create a little break from this sustain pluck sound which you could reintroduce later again - just my $0.02

I hope we are still friends

Agree with Richard and Dave comment completely man and my suggestion would be - if you don't feel comfortable with creating a melodic theme then go through some arps and find one which seats well with your main melodic concept, the (at least in Ableton Live) you can extract it to a midi for your evaluation to see notes and timing those notes.

Also don't go for loudness but rather for coherence and levels of your sound/s - this will go a long way for you to start to see the difference

Cheers man,

Darek
