And get this. They go for £250-300 ($350-450) each on ebay and I got them both for £250.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Jul-08-2013 15:21:

i don't use ebay. But still , i live in big cities. They just don't really exist in NA. Biggest regret of selling stuff. And the company is just a mess now with all their vaporware and announcements of shit that will never happen. They should really be ashamed to call themselves german. I mean it is ridiculous. They should relocate to france.

Posted by tehlord on Jul-08-2013 15:42:

Ebay is still useful if it's a local item for pick up. In fact I just bought an AN1x on there for little money as I was local to the guy that was selling it.

But true about Waldorf. Even the idea that the Pulse 2 is matrix/menu based is absurd given the current state of the competition.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Jul-08-2013 15:45:

the nazis would just be rolling in their grave if they saw how german's conducted their business these days.

Nice Geoff! I'm thinking that I might need to replace my MOTU 828mkII within the next year and I've been eyeing that Focusrite for a while. I'll be interested in hearing how it works out for you.

I bet the founding fathers would feel the same about the current state of the US.

So far so good. There's a slight issue with the FX connection glitching out for a second every hour or so, but I have no idea whether that's my computer or the interface. My old PCI FW card worked fine with the MR816 and the Powercore though.

The preamps are good, perhaps not quite as good as the MR816x, but certainly good enough for the money. I've had a brief play with the liquid channels as well and so far I'm impressed.

The Mix Control software is mostly unintuitive, but for me that kind of thing is fire and forget.

Expandability and connectivity are pretty good, although no better than most of the other 8 channel interfaces. I will be looking for some optical expansion with something like the ADA8000 as well.

I haven't delved too deep yet as I only got them today.

They sound fantastic of course. The UI is a little annoying, although it's relatively logically laid out. I've used a Blofeld before so I'm familiar with the matrix editing, it's still sad that there isn't more dedicated control though.

One thing to get used to is the volume variation when you use the filter and resonance knobs. I guess this is dialled out a lot in software, but requires levelling out when you're recording live audio.

For bass it's awesome, and of course it's completely alias free.

Edit - By the way, there is a 3rd party software editor for them believe it or not!

cool man thanks - the editing will probably put me off one - especially if its like the Blofeld, just hated programming that :-/

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Jul-09-2013 00:05:

it is a pretty simple synth to edit. I mean there isn't that much you can do. It just sounds great. And it is rack mountable. That is the problem with everything new comming out. THey are made for hipsters to bring to their dj gigs and have next to their laptops to look legit.

If you're a new mac user couple things to reccomened

http://www.cocoatech.com/pathfinder/

http://www.onyxmac.com/

and Hidden Cleaner and YemuZip are a good way to not pissoff PC users you might collaborate with

there's also a NTFS plugin where you can mount windows formatted devices with full write capabilities but it's slow as shit

also im not sure if they are still putting this on the system disks but if you install 'X11' and download 'Winehelper' you can open up a lot of .exe files

Geoff I once owned an AN1X - awesome thing to fuk about with and had a unique sound. Awkward to edit but it didn't bother me.

Forgot about Onyx - thanks!

What the point of pathfinder? The search bar literally finds everything I need in a second.

And when you say open exe files, you mean they'll execute?

Oh and just to add to that, you're better off having shared drives to be used on mac and PC as fat32. Both can use them, and the speed of that NTFS mounter makes you want to pull your balls off with a mangle.

Enough talk, lets see some more pics.

Pathfinder is awesome.. I didn't realize how crippled the finder really was until I started using it. Just for instance do a search for one of your audio units. Nothing coming up? That's cause the finder doesn't search through any of the system directories. Filter your search results by size in finder... no dice. Just a couple examples. It's a total replacement for finder with a massive and customizable feature-set. So much better for anything relating to file management. There are review videos and stuff if you want to know more I'm feeling kinda lazy right now, but yeah definitely worth trying out if you want to speed up and streamline your workflow

Yeah. I mean don't try to load up Skryim or whatever but it works great for the little things

agreed but realistically, say Bob PC User brings over his already formatted drive and you guys want to transfer files, it's really the best way. If you buy a new drive with the intent of it being a shared drive then yeah

For those of you who thought you'd never see me using a Mac/Logic.

Cute, isn't it?
