Actually it is. Nice weather in Seattle means all the girls jump on the chance to wear the skimpiest possible thing. So many shorts that cut up with the thigh... rawr.

Also gotta love Running Start in community colleges here hahaha. Ah, now I feel like a perv (more so than usual).

Continuing on the perv path... God damn there is just a gaggle of extremely attractive girls out in the park today all lazing around in bikinis... And I am stuck inside, not doing my homework.

Fuck this, going for a run.

I apparently undervalue my work significantly...

I was bitching with a bunch of people on Skype about this simulation platform and I remarked how glad I am my competition basically gives no fucks about me so far and we out perform them feature for feature when one of the guys said:

quote:
[16:52:13] Konrad Szumiec (zGuba): does a bunch of my superiors in university count?
[16:52:19] CD (Nou): eh?
[16:53:05] (zGuba): hmmmm no they aint competitorrs
[16:53:06] (zGuba):
[16:53:09] (zGuba): nvm
[16:53:17] CD (Nou): they know about ACRE?
[16:54:19] (zGuba): yes, but I doubt they ever used it - not like simulation experts play Arma coops daily
[16:54:32] CD (Nou): thats actually more impressive somehow
[16:54:52] Squelch: indeed
[16:55:39] (zGuba): well, let the competition keep truckin'

He is in a simulations course at uni and they reference my work...

Again, why the fuck did I go back to school?

It's like what the House Republicans say. You go to College to further your education, not to find a career that makes a lot of money.

You should've invested that money. Either in your own company or elsewhere.

I bought EA stock today.

I already invested in myself! Its taken longer than I thought to pay off though (thanks to drunken suicidal business partner who I finally divested myself of!).

Going back to school was the only way to get, ahem... funding, and still focus on my project.

How's going to school going to fund that? You're going to school to follow a curriculum. Your project takes a back seat.

Nah, school is easy.

Honestly, I need to divest myself of one other little hang up and I can probably start looking for outside capital again. We were trying to do that in '11 but my business partner was kind enough to be drunk on two of our conference calls. That was really good planning on his part.

Hurray for school!!!!

A stipulation by your, ahem... investors?

Pretty much. It sucks though because it makes me consider going into a field entirely different from what I am doing now.

I don't need a degree to get a good job in the programming field. I have a portfolio and experience that'd put any graduate to shame (as in I have it at all)... I am not sure exactly what I am doing there, but I have this draw towards law and history.

Everyone says don't be a lawyer in this day and age (and the ones saying that are lawyers) but I grew up around so many lawyers that it just feels natural to also go into it. Argh.

Shit I shoulda figured out 5 years ago.

Honestly if I put my head to the ground and just ran this project out I coulda probably sell it for a couple million and divest myself of it entirely and just go to school with out stress and focus on something I really like with out a care. Oh well... Its too damn hot.

What are you passionate about? What is the thing that you could do, even if you weren't paid a dime to do?

Its a tie between what I do now for no money (making military simulation software) and arguing with people (mostly on the internet).

So it doesn't really solve my problem.

Software or Law.

You need to stop thinking about what other think you're supposed to be doing. That's all indoctrination.

Life is not a straight line. School is not for everyone.

In some ways, College is a middle class rite of passage. Don't follow the herd.

Posted by Joss Weatherby on May-07-2013 02:25:

Actually I'd do design and photography too, but those have always been more of hobbies. I really like both though and want to get better at them.

Posted by Joss Weatherby on May-07-2013 02:34:

Honestly the whole thing I am doing now seems like it just sorta happened with out me planning it

I started out with an idea to make something better in this game and have fun learning about radios (because it was new) and then all of the sudden before it was even out we were being approached by huge companies (like way bigger than we could have/should have dealt with) and it was pretty overwhelming. We ended up with a nice deal with a smaller company, but one that was more focused in the industry (not a general defense contractor like the other ones), but it involved no funding, just a promise of promotion and sales handling. If my business partner's mom hadn't died in 2010 then we probably would have hit our release date (we had an initial round of publicity at a few trade shows, but then release dates started slipping).

So, it's done. Drop out this week, organize your portfolio and start hustling. We don't need any more indoctrinated code monkeys. We have enough of those already, and they are cheaper in India.

I'm just doing GE stuff right now to get an AS or transfer credits to go into a BS program.
