Can't emphasize this enough

@Seandroid: Can't think of anything worth mentioning. Instant head nodding = approved.

Droid that's very good but if you make into a full trap track be sure to have it ever evolving. The best trap tracks for me never stay still, and even a prominent lead part is always evolving, changing sound etc. Maybe for example after 4 bars change your lead there to a Human voice sample type lead. I've noticed young kids rapidly going through trap tracks one after another until they find one which is ever evolving as this holds their interest.

I thought of you recently when I was listening to UK Grime, which is said to be the sound of 2016. Might try some myself.

Thanks for your feedback - I appreciate you reminding me not to totally change the track as that is a bad habit I have.
I will try and make bass a bit louder but very mindfull of other comments saying it was too loud, hmmmm

Maybe a bit more bass (just notch the volume up a bit on that reese thing) could work, but overall you put emphasis on all the right elements in the right places. I love how the chords sit on top of the mix demanding focus and setting a brilliant mood without taking over the whole thing.

Not trying to have a go here - but I'm just baffled how the quality of your productions seems to differ so much at times. This one is lovely. Very well done. I've been a fan for a while, but if you keep up quality like this... I'm gonna put this on repeat for a while.

Cheers Mat, yeah my consistency is not good, but I'm making a super hard effort to address this - tbh I'm absolutely reliant on feedback here.

I will try and get the bass up a little in volume (wont touch eq unless people say otherwise), and make a few slight additions, such as a reverse piano hit running up to each piano hit in the intro just to smooth it some.

Also looking to get the vocals done properly into a song as it were, but if not, will leave as is.

Since rebuilding my PC I lost all my IK Multimedia dynamics and so only use Cubase dynamics and a couple of freebee's. I do wonder if my sound would improve with decent dynamics plugs-ins, but there's a lot of choice out there, from Slate to PSP Vintage warmer?

A lot of my sound is now by the Roland JD XA, I find it fun to work with, but the sound is fairly raw without high end plug-ins perhaps?

Hopefully this is it now, took on board comments and finalised mixing and tracking panning and added some frilly bits such as piano reverses. Bass a little louder and tracked where some notes comparatively loud

Thanks again guys

Back to my more powerful drums, lots of mixing and transition work done.

Still not sure about the bass, not sure if it has enough character or not.

I also have a vocalist doing her own take on things, Ill see how that goes.

Structure and melody vice this work is perfect - just two small things to massage and you should start to shop around for good place to represent you -> so first will be hats, cut some from high freq to make is sound more balance as right now it is a bit to bright for my ear, two - your bass needs a bit of level adjustment (volume) or some lifting in mid-low freq would give you similar result but don't change anything else as the rest sounds just perfect.

Cheers man,

Darek

Man, you are quick lol as my above comment was for your first version lol but sounds like it is still valid.

if your aiming for the beatport market/earphones then i think you need to get the top end of the bass coming through, im listening on my laptop and cant hear it at all

Yea I hear you and darek, I'll but a bit more top line bass in, then hopefully get it stem mastered.

Cheers

BW I deleted 90% of my tracks of my hardrive just now, feel bloody liberated. Anyone else ever taken a brutal hatchet to their drive?

Hmm some uplifting trance from me, an old project that I'm determined to fix up, how is the mix sounding over there?

It sounds really warm and pleasant but I feel like it sounds busy in the mid range. Beautiful track though. It's a lot darker than what I'm used to hearing from you and I like that.

I totally changed the trap tune I was working on earlier and I'm way happier with it now.

Yea I totally see that, I got fatigued working on it and it started to sound good, needs to be re-mixed.(which will be a bitch, but I have some ideas)

Your wip sounds very clean over here on my headphones. keep an eye on sub low end when changing notes, u can try adaptive eq.

Sounding good n serious, not too sure if I like the pronounced sidechaining, I sort of just want to hear those synths better

What do you mean by this, do you mean the sub getting softer and louder when the note changes even when the notes have the same velocity and level on the mixer?

When the kick drum's sub changes notes it changes its frequency (obviously) and sometimes a sub hitting an F# sounds great in the mix but when it hits a note higher (for instance) it can sound muddy. Often you have to separate the notes into different tracks and EQ them differently. Like, I'm boosting the 100hz a bit on my kick tail which sounds great and present on the root note but when it changes there's a bit too much in that area and it sounds blown out.

Ah ok. I sometimes have issues where as the sub goes higher in a chord progression it's a lot louder than when it is lower so that's why I asked.

Actually was just listening to an old track of yours the other day, "Lumen". I thought the mix was outstanding. I think this one could use some adjusting in the final mixdown. The kick sounds too soft, or is lacking in fullness to me.

However, this is a beautiful progressive house track. Really interested to hear it finished. Hope you will send me a promo of it when it is done!

its fairly raw, the lead is really loud. however you could remix this into a nice track, the basis is already there

So you can download this one now, I can't be bothered sending to labels

My mate mastered this one using all analogue gear so hopefully it will translate ok

Sounds good here Richard, personally I like a tiny bit bigger bass on these types of tracks.

yep, all its missing is a tweak of the bass and its there, vocal is distorting places but maybe thats the intention.... lovely track

Posted by Storyteller on Jan-23-2016 13:25:

@MSZ: can't listen anymore
@Seandroid: still nothing to really comment on. Sounds big and well balanced.
@Richard: I agree with Evo8 and MSZ...

I hope I've gathered enough good karma over the past few months to drop this one here. Halfway through the first I noticed I liked another progression too, so the alternate version is more or less the same arrangement doing things a bit differently.
