Well, sounds promising.. reminds me some hard-trance tracks back from 2008-2009..mostly because of this familiar kick and rolling basses...I wonder what melody you will put there.

As for me..just a quick question here...how it sounds for those with proper monitoring system. Listenable? or any glaring problems with frequencies balance I can't hear on my headphones. Just want to start getting other stuff done and need some reference points.

Don't mind the delay speed-up clicks at 37-40s mark.

Thanks.

Put EQ on your initial piano sound - is piercing my ears (at least this reverb tail) - the rest sounds pretty good so far - would like to hear where you going to take this wip.

Juan, sound like you slowly have an idea how good track suppose to sound but there is still a lots of room for improvement my friend for example those two mid-range bass line where they come in around 0:46 mark, are not sounding right to me and in addition when you low freq bass is coming, this whole thing (kick and your bass lines) are not clicking with me at all - they don't coexist properly together my friend.
As fat as your kick - initially (an till 1:15 mark) you could low cut this kick so doesn't stand out so much.

Cheers,

Darek

This is very pretty. It also sounds almost like you're quoting Greensleeves, was that deliberate? (Not criticizing, actually curious.)

Posted by OldLurker on Jan-29-2015 09:35:

No, never heard of Greensleeves, but will look it up when I get back from work.

And thanks for pointing out piano issue, Darek, will look at it, since I want to start making rough channel templates of sounds I will use constantly, and piano is one of it.

Thanks.

Great pallet of sounds here, love the reverb, what are u sing for it?

A couple of places the drums seem to duck which is a bit odd.

so here is a crossover I'm working on, a mixture between rock, progressive and a bit of a deephouse lick. weird mixture. and a male vocalist (we don't hear those often here)

Not fully done yet, but far enough to get some feedback.

Is this a remix? - as those chords are really familiar R. - overall sounds cool but some of those vocal FX are kind of (lest put this way) weird

Cheers man,

Darek

No it's an Original track, which I'm putting in a more modern setting. it's the chord progression of the track, i just did set into dotted eights. The vocal are the first takes and comped into something useable. We will still need to do a lot retakes. some nose and throat squeezing, but also some stronger lines. potential is there, just needs more work (like always)

Yeah, the melody is really familiar but overall idea sound good so far.

I like the elements in this, but the vocal isn't sitting well yet for me - it might be a little too high in the mix or maybe just too dry? I think it needs some work to help it bed better.

the track behind sounds good, and I like the ideas though

I've been trying to make this track work for ages.. should I just bin it?

it's one of those ones - I think I like it, I think I like the melody, and whenever I listen to it after leaving it for a while, i think I should fix it up and get it out there - but I might just be deluding myself.

It's trance - 135bpm

what do you guys think/
anything that might fix it? or is it objectively decent/shit?

Thanks for your comments Darek. I went back to my synths to take another look to see anything was wrong or out of the ordinary on the mid range basses and I saw that LFO modulation dial wasn't at default meaning 0 on the bass station 2. I knew something was wrong but i couldn't point it out, thanks anyhow. I started to lower my levels so i can get the final mix down to 0 because people were telling me that my kick was to high at volume or my bass was so I read some tuts and used the familiar cut and boost for kick and bass with side chain compression. Will work on something new and fresh with the new stuff i learned. Cheers homie.

Juan

Toby, this is some serious stuff my friend - melody line is simply sublime and works pretty sweet in this track -> but I'm still not fully sold on your low freq bass line, it is too (let's say) boomy (at least for me), you can either EQ it a bit or cut some freq from it and allow you mid-range to breath through it a bit more - if this make any sense - your mid and high bass will drive your energy and create this vibe in your track - overall excellent work man

Cheers,

Darek

This is fantastic. I have no idea if it was on purpose, but all the way up until the big build back into the track (4:15), all the different little melodic bits sounded very slightly off. Partly it was rhythm, partly it was tonality, but something wasn't quite meshing.

But then 4:15 hits and suddenly everything resolves beautifully. Definitely adds to the euphoric nature of the track--don't change anything about the melodic structure at all. It works perfectly.

The only strutural nitpick I have is at 1:11--you need a little bit more of a transition there, I think. Feels too abrupt and unexpected.

Other people can comment on mixing, not my forte. Excellent, excellent track.

The sub bass seems to be hanging around a bit too much. Sounds like there isn't enough "downtime" on the very low end.

Same goes for me as optik said. Dig the elemnts, but maybe just a little too dry vocal. Overall feeling still holds up though.

Posted by Raphie on Jan-31-2015 09:31:

Optik, like the track, but it needs some more counter melodies and the drums are holding the track back, they can be more tight and mechanic giving that drive feel, it's a bit more pitched balearic at the moment a style difficult to match with the lead

True, will work on it on my next wip, thank you.

A new deep house track. What do you think so far?
Cheers

Posted by optik on Feb-01-2015 17:08:

Thanks guys for all the comments - much appreciated. The first version of this track I exported in 2012, thanks to you guys comments I think I'm a lot closer to finishing it.

I've updated the version on soundcloud to sound a bit sweeter using my tc eq and compressor. I'll fix the abrupt change into the breakdown and repost a final version in a bit

cheers!!

like the feel in the buildup

needs more bass when it comes in at 49 seconds - there is very little sub there

like the house organ at 2.00

don't like the basslines when it comes back at 2:30 - this bit needs to deliver after the little build

percs and little vox samples are spot on

I'd make more of the female vocal

could be a good track if you fix the bass

hope this helps

this is more funky house, not deep but regardless i like this track, few odd notes here and there that dont seem to fit, the little sound that hits on the offbeat before each bar ends is throwing the whole thing off for me, sorry if that doesnt make sense

im listening on my ue boom and the kick/bass is working well and is nice and punchy, other drums good too

This reminds me very strongly of a funkier version of PPK - Hey DJ!
