Trippy. Sounds nice and balanced.

This is todays work, didn't sleep over, so it may be very bad.

Still on this. Put a lot of shit in there, but now really don't know if this works all together.

I like the fulsome synths but the drums aren't doing it. Listen to some chill liquid lounge type stuff and nail those drums plus make em lounder

Some house WIP - will be adding fx, little sounds, risers and shortening that second break

Richard doing House? o.O Sounds really good man, and I would have to agree it doesn't sound like you need much at all,IF any change or additive.

Ok...so pulled this back out again and I think I finally have it completed (thank god)

Would it be too harsh to say you need to redesign all your sounds? I dont know how you work but sometimes I dive into presets and learn something new to keep it fresh. Try to do more variety then you can go back to the sounds you like and have a different perspective because I see you are using similar sounds in the tracks you post. You're good at writing tracks, you should try other areas - my 2cents.

Something I started, going through a tough time so maybe you can hear that.

Funny how emotion triggers a musical response. Best time TO write imho.
And yes, it shows in this piece.
I for sure notice that mid bass and really dig the drive from it. Imo it should be the focus. I wanna hear that cleaned up with some movement.
Sounds like you have the base percussion set, still want to hear that with the cleaned up bass.
Go with this man, the track has potential....no matter what, life is a rollercoaster. You will climb again as you will fall ,again. Just keep goin.

Sounds pro mate - just if you could give the bass a little more personality over time with some pitch wheel, tape stops and sudden bandbass filter bits, then its done IMO

You should send this to some publisher for films as this is very emotional and thunderous - maybe clean it up a bit but don't loose the angst I can hear through this. Get through your shit mate and always learn something from it, makes you better the more self aware one is

Yeah sounds really good, there is feeling in it that i can hear, thats almost always my approach to making a track of progressive kind of style, try and get some emotion in there so that it evokes an emotional response (not sure if that reads properly)

Here's an EDM style track - could you tell me if it would be better with more vocals?

Are the 2 rises out of the breaks good enough?

Ok..This track is really vibey. I am so digging this. But there is something out of place, I can't put my finger on it. But I am thinking it's the kick. I'd really like to see that with a flatter response on the kick to meld with that bass. It's to good.
Your questions....

Personally?! I don't think you need the vox at all. I think the track stands well without it. Just my two cents.

The risers (and that snare roll? lol I don't think you need it either..lol.
It almost makes it feel like it takes away from your groove and slows it down momentarily to get back into that groove.
I'd let it ride.

Such a great potential track here Richard. And the amazing thing is I don't think you need to add at all but rather subtract.

No, it would not be That's what this discussion is all about. I'm too subjective on my own stuff. Yeah, i'll definetely try to play more with different sounds. Thanks for advices, and i hope your'e dealing ok with your situation.

I like the vibe and how it sounds - until 1:00 mark... I would base song on sound in that part + some good bassline or strings that would change key or something. It goes too much pop, and stabby open synth later for me. And structure is confusing, you've added too much stuff, still have no contrast, so it get's repetitive fast, imo.

Rich im not an EDM fan but this sounds good, i clicked play and instantly thought "EDM", thats before i read the comment

i think that you are almost changing the structure too much, you need to let some bits just loop a bit more, absolutely no harm in that, otherwise people just cant get into the groove as it keeps changing

e.g 4:13 onwards, i feel you could loop those first 2 bars again - then maybe throw in your change in the next loop around? but i understand if thats the style you intend!
vox - i dont think this needs any, better without imo
break at 2 mins, thats too long imo for that point in the track

leading into the main break you could send some of the main synth to a big delay, let that wash out whilst bringing the main synth back up
also not sure the pre-drop works the best (snares) - id try a synth stutter, like playing your main synth loop whilst progressively shortening the loop points (old djm600 trick)

sorry, i wrote too much. your kicks have good depth now (finally )

LOL Now he is really going to be confused. I just replied about his kick. But, you would know Evo for sure.
To me , it sounds like it is out of key. It is very prominent without a doubt. Or perhaps it needs to be dropped an octave
As well, dig the idea of bussing main synths to a delay. Not quite there yet in production, yet very curious and might play around with that.

I don't feel like creating a new thread, so I'll just ask here:

Don't suppose anyone would be in need of a remix? I'm kinda hitting a brick wall creatively and remixing something could get the juices flowing again.

I do all sorts of prog, but I'm pretty flexible stylewise.

All right. What sort of stuff should I be expecting?

Guys I read your feedback the other day and am working my way through it

As ever my kick here is attempt number 7 or something so it would be quite disheartening to do it again, lol

That thing where Deadmaus said just slap on any old kick quickly has never worked for me I'm afraid

Posted by SystematicX1 on Oct-13-2016 16:49:

I do and I don't agree with what joel was saying, and I do remember hearing interviews of him saying that.
In a way however, I DO use the placeholder method when first constructing a track as I seem to usually start with a kick or bass.
For myself, I call it the auditioning stage. And since I mix on the go I tend to see how the kick chosen is going to gel. Especially since we all know that the potential of your mix changing as you progress with other sounds is great.
So, in a nutshell it isn't a placeholder, technically, if I am vibing on the kick melding with other lower frequencies. If I'm not, I will attempt to detune (or tune) or just use another.
As well, it depends on how tired my ears get of constantly listening to kicks or listening to the track with a insufficient tonality of the kick that I placed. Most of the time, my ADD "kicks" in (no pun intended)and I close the track..lol

kick is fine imo, wouldnt mind remixing that track if possible!
