Cool tune

very nice beat

i think you could make the intro a bit more interesting bit more variation of synths (like you said)

im not sure about the "flute" riff in the middle 8 section (or whatever you want to call it)

For me there is a part where the bass riff moves too quickly, and it becomes undefined then, i think it should be simpler

the point at the end where the synths start to open up is really cool and quite emotive

I think you will totally nail this sound if you keep at it!

Hmm ive got a pretty good recording set up for vocals now, if you want to spend a day doing vocals at my place once you have it all worked out your welcome

heres my wip

mix is still rough though needs a lot of work

Posted by QTF on Feb-07-2014 02:00:

Thanks Chris!
Icould blame it on ear fatigue and say I spent too long without out taking a break during the mix down
ha but the muddiness is actually something I overlooked.
Lol I half expected not to get anyfeedback. Awesome. Ill definately take it to hear and do some reworking. I have three other projects but the only feedback I ever get is programmed responses. Thanks again!

Yu got that London sound pinned mate. This is a fun track and if you can get her sounding pro and big this should be picked up easy.

Here's my entry. Lets me know what you guys think.
Thanks for listening
Époque

Like the central Rhodes keys theme particularly the first halve. Gets a bit off the rails in places, would be better if you kept it more simple around that core theme I think.

Seems like you have a good imagination for ideas.

Evolve I like your track, it's catchy and uplifting yet subtle.

An idea for ya - at he end of the break I imagine quite a big stabby bass joining the action. Think this could make it pretty euphoric. Also open the release a little in places just to give a sense of journey - in the most uplifting parts.

I made this with storyteller in mind, any feedback welcome as I always get the mix wrong.

I can't really make out what the vocal is saying. I would love to see the bit with kick at @ 1:30 extended a bit building a bit more tension up to the break opening the filters a bit more on the stab. The latter half is a neat change of pace. I like. Mixwise I don't hear that much room for improvement, kick pierces through the mix just the way I like it. Really cool vibe overall.

quick listen on ear buds. Mix sounds nice, kick sounds lovely, agree arrangement could be improved nice though. will have proper listen later

But

IMHO drop that vocal, replace it with a sample or get a singer in .

The mix is quite rough indeed. I found the vocals far too load, but I'm guessing you are aware of that. I'd love the synth to be a bit more upfront than it is now too. I like the overall concept but I'm missing a hookline in either the synth or the vocals, something I'll repeat over and over...

yep ta mate

do agree on the mix had the same thoughts myself. vox is far too loud and synths are not well balanced either Needs some hardcore mixing and referencing overall !!

I think the chorus part is the most hooky part, and im happy enough with it in that way, personally, but there are lots of things i want to improve - mostly the mix as you mentioned!

Thanks for posting, Storyteller and Rich

edit - Matthijs, i remember you being really positive about an earlier version of this. perhaps its the poor mix down thats putting you off, or maybe not keen on the vocals?

Vocals mostly in my case. They just don't do it for me this time unfortunately.

Quite curious on how this mix is translating, ill leave some feedback for people who post after me, my unhelpful feedback that is.

pretty good mate - id be tempted to cut just a little of the low mids out but then again its pretty good as is

the bassline is reminding me a little of early Holden stuff, actually as the track goes on it reminds me of early 2k prog, nice drop as well - kudos for getting close to that sound! rgds jealous

I agree with evo that the low mids sounds a little bit muddy. Maybe cut some things out around the 200-800Hz mark to make it a little bit clearer? Im not sure though, my room situation isn't the best, but if I remember riht this might have been a problem area in the last tunes I've heard from you.

Why is your feedback unhelpful!? Isnt this you?

Couldnt find your version only on youtube but it is on spotify and it is fucking good. Listen to that and tell me your feedback is unhelpful.

Im not sucking up to you, I don't care what you think but It seems like you have been listening too much to idiots lately. I have heard many good things from you so I think it is a little sad if you are going to let idiots ruin it for you.

So yeah, if you rather listen to people who adore Lady Gaga and Backstreet boys, then so bee it. But the salesfigures means nothing in the end. Good music is good music and shit music is shit music whatever the hord thinks, or don't thinks.

Excuse my grammar.

Go release on Baroque or something, I don't think you need feedback anymore.

Posted by MSZ on Feb-16-2014 15:53:

I agree, I need to clarify the mids and do some eq dips on the lower mids, my monitors have a problem with low mids -- there is a dip there so Im not that strong in that area for sure. Thanks for the feedback.

Been working loads lately so haven't had time to play about much. Had most of this weekend free so decided to give studio one a try out again, a nice alternative to ableton. Here's my first wip from it

Cheers

Other then that I think it sounds really good. Would like to hear the main part?

Thanks guys that's good to hear, I'm still trying to get used to my monitors, I've always mixed on headphones.. Hope to work on it some more at the weekend, just full of busy atm

Sounds good to me so far. An older style in my opinion, but that is all personal preference. Interesting you start by making the intro first. I usually start with the main breakdown or main climax.
