Which was the first trance track you have ever heard and when?
Here is my start:
Trance :
- Atlantic Ocean : Waterfall (in '93)
Hardtrance :
- Jones & Stephenson : The First Rebirth (in '94)
Goa :
- Doof : Double Dragons (in '96)
Peace!

Hey YEZy, good topic!!!
Question; WHAT IS TRANCE??? Is J M Jarre trance? If it is, and I think it would be called that if he made that music today (in the mid 70's it was called synth?), I think the first trance track I heard was Oxygene or Hypnosis. BUT, if you mean modern trance, it has to be Man whit no name - Teleport. Heard it on a rave in 93(?), and I just wanted to step up to the DJ and steal the record!
YEZy, hook me up on e-mail or ICQ, I think we have some retro music to descuss
PuterVirus
i think my 1st trance song that I got hooked on trance was Xpander by sasha..a classic.
I don't know what my very first track was but the first track that really got me interested was 'Twist and Shout' by Quivver -classic progressive house/trance. I was in a club and the DJ played it and something clicked and I was turned!
I guess it was X-ite - Reserch (93)
HEY DUDES
THE FIRST TRANCE/DANCE TRACK THAT WAS ACTUALLY MADE IS
NEW ORDER - BLUE MONDAY
SO I GUESS THAT WILL BE MINE
THIS WILL TELL YOU HOW NEW I AM TO TRANCE, THE FIRST TRACK I HEARD WAS DJ JEAN - THE LAUNCH (STILL ONE OF MY FAVS). EVER SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN HOOKED!
It's very hard to answer this question because you can't say: hey, this was the moment when trance begun. The music gradually changed into trance...
you call Jones & Stephenson - The First Rebirth "hardtrance". I would rather call it hardcore or al least oldskool. And about Atlentic Ocean - Waterfall, I would call that song dance or club but not trance! It's true that dance/club music little by little changed into trance but back in 1993 trance didn't even excist! Oh and by the way that song is from '95...
So in my opinion it's not right to call these songs trance or hardtrance.
But to answer you're question it think my first trance song was Carlos - Silmarillia ('97 I think??) cause the producers of that song were Tijs Verwest & E.B. Goeijen (I read this in the forum about aliases), nowadays known as tiesto and rank 1 or the kamaya painters.

A tough question to answer indeed, simply because we don't know exactly what was considered real trance back then. Hmmm... but as for real trance, I guess the first song(s) I heard back in the day were either:
7 days and one week - BBE (94/95)
or
Night Train - 'unknown' (95)
I have the second song on some old mix tape I taped off of a college radio show. That was where I started my fine love and appreciation for rave and dance culture. Gotta support the underground right?
Children by Robert Miles was probably one of the first trance songs to be truly recognized by the general public. I think that's when the scene started to really accelerate. Well, that's what I think anyways. Comments?

DJ Quicksilver - Bellisima
What a horrible song, but I guess I owe it alot.
Hi everyone!
Thanks all replies, now here are my comments:
- Putervirus : I'm gonna send you a mail
. By the way I don't think JMJ is trance. In my opinion his music is simply synthesizer music. But there were albums of him called Jarremix and Odyssey through O2 with some trance and house remixes by Resistance D., Takkyu Ishino and others.
- Jukx : In my opinion the Jones & Stephenson track was hardtrance. It has great hypnotic melody and heavy beat. Hardcore is much harder and has much less melodical parts. Oldskool may be right...
I'm not sure and I can't remember exactly but I think I have heard the Atlantic Ocean track before '95... It was played on MTV together with Magic Affair and Culture Beat clips and these groups were on the top in '93. This song also has great melodical parts like trance songs.
"in 1993 trance didn't even excist"... I'm not fluent English unfortunately.
Does this mean there was no trance in '93? Because it's not true!
- Tripsy : The Night Train is performed by Kadoc.
Peace!

Thats Not Difficult It Was The Trance Classic By Three Drives On A Vinyl With: Greece 2000.
I`ve Been Hooked Ever Since.
hmmmmm...... it was the first track off of dj tiesto's innercity 99 mix, push - the anthem
my friend was listening to shoutcast during our tech class and i've been hooked ever since
well knew what Trance and Techno was since 93-94....but the song that really got my addicted was Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar..at the 98 Love parade!!!!! that tune was amazing and still is.....probably one of the best Trnace Classics ever!!!!
I'm not sure exactly what the first trance song I heard was, but the first trance song I really liked was Transa - Enervate which appeared on the classic Oakenfold - Tranceport and Sasha/Digweed - Northern Exposure 2 mixes in 1997.

I think mine would be Carlos - The Simarillia....
I can't say what was my first trance track I heard because it really transformed little by little as Jukx pointed out.
But I guess it was in 1995 with these tunes I really got into dance/techno music and now trance.
...and never looked back.
* Jam & Spoon's Hand's On Yello - You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess
* Jens Mahlstedt - Loops & Things
* Dune - Hardcore Vibes (South Bound Mix & Good Vibes Mix)
But the ONE track I got so hooked on was the amazing "Westbam - Celebration Generation". This track still roxxx! Forgot what year it was released.
Also worth a mention:
* Lunatic Asylum - The Meltdown Velvet Vibe (1993)
* Scooter - Hyper Hyper / The First Time / Stuttgart (1996) <--- Good old Scooter

* Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar (Porte de Bagnolet Mix) (1994)
* Blue Alphabeth - Cybertrance (1994)
* Legend B. - Lost In Love (1994)
--- Max ---
My first contact with trance was with:
Dance 2 Trance - P.ower of A.merican N.atives
(Fffffff--pipes--energetic woman vocals: "I believe in the power of American natives...."--boom, boom, boom...)
It came out in 1991 and made it to the Top 20 on MTV Europe. It was a great track back then and still is. Understandably, it lacks all the textures present in today's big hits, but it's another example that understanding of basic design principles is more important than anything.
My first exposure to trance was Robert Miles's album "Dreamland" at a record store listening booth. I bought it on the spot. Even today I still listen to that album, although at the time I didn't realize that it was trance. The track that really got me into it thought has to be Kabalah by Astral Projection... wicked goa track.
Suzaku
System F - Out of the Blue
heard this in friend's car
hooked on trance since then
I have one more to add...
Right in the Night by Jam & Spoon (circa 93/94)
Can't forget that classic.
Tripsy
Right in the Night is a wicked track Tripsy, i've had that in my collection before I even knew what trance was... just had to add my two cents
Suzaku
I thought Robert Miles was "Dream" and not "Trance"... I don't know exactly the difference, though.
And what is "Ambient"? What's the difference between Dance and Trance?
Thanks.
My first trance which got me hooked was probably
Oudja - Never tell what you think
from the Goliath 5 CD. I think it's a little known track, but still a good one.
-Andreas
Hard to define Trance since there is no clear line between genres. EG where does progressive house stop and trance start?!
Either way it was Pitchin by Hi Gate (still my fav) that got me into this world of music
Chi ADs Purity got me into harder stuff
And yet it was way back when FCB did Excalibur that I thought some dance music "might be alright"
Very good topic, although it's hard to give an exact answer to it ...
any way, i remmber this first style of music
before 10 years, when the first trackers where invented, music from 91 and so,
today it mostly recognayed as goa..
and the first goa i know is juan - spiritual healing ....
house music i can't hardly tell,
cause in israel, where i come from
songs like verachocha - carte blanche are house, although the GU is house,
so i can't sure, don't think that carte was my first :-)
