A few nights ago I was sitting in my living room, when I heard noises coming from the kitchen. I walked into the kitchen and the noises stopped, and once I walked back into the living room and sat down the noises would start again. I was in the middle of smoking a joint, so naturally I thought I was hearing shit. The back and forth game continued until I stood still for about 10 minutes outside of the kitchen waiting for whatever was making the noise to appear. Voila, a mouse decided to bunker up in the floorboard of my cupboards.

At first, I was like, "It's one mouse, I'll let it live and play." But the following night I walked into my kitchen and noticed a lighter toned one doing the run from the bottom of the dishwasher to a crack in the floorboard. And then a bigger one (assuming an adult, maybe mother) following along. At this point, I was like, "Oh hell nah, I'm gonna get you little fucks."

Since then it's been an adventure trying to catch these rodents. I tried to catch them alive, but it didn't work. I bought and set some traps yesterday, but they set all of them off last night without getting caught. And they ate all the fucking peanut butter on them, too. Well, this morning, I reset the traps and finally caught one. Hearing the cries from a little mouse was a bit bothersome, but I didn't have any other choice, did I?

One down, two more (that I know of) to go.

As I don't have any cats/dogs, I prefer the poison stuff you put inside that black plastic thing. They dry up after eating that so it's a pretty easy clean-up and you don't have to hear the cries of the suffering mouse

Then again, if I had a cat I wouldn't have needed traps.

This was my next option, but if they die off somewhere in my floorboards I won't have access to dispose of them, and I assume it would stink up my place.

Dude, no...

Do yourself a huge favor and order some rodent repellent.

It's like mace, or pepper spray for mice & rats, except that it causes such an awful shock to their nervous system that they don't come within 50 feet of the scent of it. And yes, they even tell all their friends to stay away as well. Not to sound like a salesman, but this will be the last anti-rodent product you'll ever buy. Seriously.

Yet another reason to get a cat. Those little shits wouldn't survive a nano second with my kitties around.

Mice reproduce really, really fast. If you've seen one, expect 18.. Get some Decon. They're tiny poison balls that you can leave around when you leave the house. When you come back you will be able to tell if they have eaten some. Once they eat this stuff they get very thirsty and seek water outside. It is the least painful way I know of to get rid of them. Do NOT use this if you have other pets or kids around.

The same site I linked above sells crazy industrial strength rat poison designed for annihilating entire rodent populations inside huge factories and warehouses. I initially planned on ordering it, but with thoughts of cleaning up tons of dead mice and taking on bad Karma, I decided to take a risk and go with the repellent first, before going for overkill.

Within the first week my roommate and I heard two or three of them screech when coming in contact with the stuff. After that, we never heard from or saw them again.

We have these things that plug into wall outlets that emit a high frequency tone, and it keeps mice away. I think in the past two years we have found one, maybe two mice in a trap. And it's always the same spot above our washer + dryer - the only place we don't have one of those things plugged in nearby.

We sometimes get rats out in the yard eating the macadamia nuts that have fallen to the ground. They don't last long with a family of Kookaburras here
