Does it really matter? It all comes down to the music they create. Theres this guy that i know has a full built studio..but yet his music still sound crappy. So..yeah..you can still make good sounding music with just only 3 pieces of equipment...and sound better than anything that was made with tons of hardware and special toys and such.

High paying jobs and expensive hobbies go well together. Or maybe they don't have high paying jobs and have spent the last 10 years slowly collecting their equipment. No one buys a studio in one go unless they are famous musicians with a steady income or millionaires. Most people buy maybe 3-4 items every year, and after 10 years that's a lot of stuff...

Here is an old shot of my budget studio, right now pretty much everything is boxed and up for sale because I'm moving out. In the new place I will be buying MOTU 828mkII, HR824, Virus C, Kawai K5000s, AKG 3000B, a preamp and etc as the money comes.

Well it's not like people bought all that stuff in 1 go or brand new. Most studios have taken years and years to build and hunting down stuff from auctions etc.

Some people gamble their money, some people drink, some buy musical gear. You just have to set your priorities straight.

Ah well,
here goes the hardware part:

Crappy DJ Setup (dont need the pro shit @ home, just a waste of money which is worth buying studio equip for):
1x Technics SL1200 MKII
1x Reloop RC2600 MKII (CD)
Behringer DX1000 Mixer

Production Enviroment:
- Yamaha CS2x
- Edirol UR80 Midi Desk
- Edirol PCR-30 Controller Keyboard
- Behringer BCF2000 Motorized Midi Mixer Desk

Production Computer:
- Cubase SX 3 + various VSTs I 'wasted' my money on
- Athlon 64 3400+
- 2048MB DDRII RAM
- 160GB OS HDD (mirrored bi-weekly to an identical 160GB Disk)
- 2x 120GB @ RAID1 for Productionstorage (includes Projectfiles and ISOs I made of Sample CDs. DaemonTools 4 life )
- TerraTec DMX6Fire 24/96 (soon to be replaced by an EMU 1820m including Audiodock)
- ASUS A8N-SLI MoBo
- all the other crap a PC needs...
- 2x 19" VideoSeven TFTs

Monitor Computer:
- Hooked to the Master PC via optical (glass-fibre) cable (both directions).
- Athlon XP 2800+
- 1024 MB DDRII RAM
- TerraTec DMX6fire 24/96 LT
- 1x 17" VideoSeven TFT
- Nexxus DVB-S Sattelite Video Card
- Able to be controlled via VST-Systemlink over Toslink.

Misc:
- Epiphone Les Paul Standard Guitar
- DI Box
- Beyerdynamic DT910 Monitor Headphones
- Sony MDR-V700 (for alternative monitor monitoring, they fake the sound pretty good, but still important to have it sound decent on those as well)
- Kenwood whatever AMP. Using the "Direct Sound" feature without any DSP influences.
- Sony MD Player which im not using anymore....

Whats next?
ESI NeAr05 Monitors which I ordered today.
Need to get rid off those cheapo monitors i got right now also the results are pretty good.

Yeah the layout of the room is very nice. We can get about 5 people in there ands still work in a comfortable enviroment. Yeah I know I should get another monitor. I am debating though...another 20 inch or just get the 30 inch apple cinema display...that thing is so fucking beautiful.
