I love Deleuze. Keep in mind a Thousand Plateaus is by far their most wacky and experimental book, it's even deliberately written in a non-linear fashion, they encourage the reader to read the chapters in a random order. Also, a lot of the wackyness comes from Guatarri, Deleuze by himself is an incredibly considered scholar of the tradition of metaphysics and a very technical and considered philosopher. I'm (slowly) reading Difference & Repetition right now, it's great, give it a try, it's definitely not harder or more confusing than "oops, I may have just negated what I said the last 20 pages (and I'm going to fucking negate that statement again 20 pages later, which will lead to a negation of that synthesis 50 pages later) Hegel.
