I still find it hard to believe with so many clubs ink owns and operates they don't have 1 dedicated venue to compete with Nest and Coda... it just perplexes me...
Underground audiences are very fickle. Mainstream audiences are not.
Oh, and $$$$. Guess which brings in more? Remember, Charles Khabouth is pretty much the douchebag who brought bottle service to Toronto (unfortunately).

Ultra Spin all access parties were the best. So much talent for $20
I couldn't imagine ANY event nowadays costing only $20 ...but it's amazing how much the productions have changed for the better.

For sure, when you get a $20/$25 nowadays it's a steal! I agree and disagree on whether everything is for the better. The production value of a lot of events have changed, but the last few years of Guv didn't bring in the talent like it used to. Way too commercial for my liking. I'm glad they brought in a variety of acts for people for the closing parties though. I still miss that place.

Frankly, extravagant visuals aren't even that important and can be kind of distracting (in a bad way) depending on the event. When Diggers was at the Guv last fall and the latter half of his set was done to basic vertical colour bars on the LED screen, that was the perfect accompaniment to the tunes he was playing. Simple, rhythmic shifts in the background light were absolutely perfect and completely mesmerizing.
speaking of the visuals in guv which were always good... shout out to the video they played during Motor's set (a live rock electronica act) that played after steve lawler during I believe the first Viva event in the main room... the video was more a less illustrations of a family being hunted by a serial killer... it was shocking and scary...
but yeah after 5 the lights were all turned down and only the sound system in the back illuminated in red led lighting were always amazing to see...
