PDD Classic Threads

As suggested by Trancaholic in the über-COR, I guess this is the place to put the best of the best of the boring. Funny, informative, endless debating, historic flaming, whatever

May I suggest a stylized format to make things more organized:

Topic
Thread title
Link

comment (if you want ... what's noteworthy, who were the primary particpants, whatever)

If people like it, and are interested, we can ask Neo to sticky it. Now excuse me while I look for a few evolution threads ...

Fights about Religion vs. State vs. Evolution vs. Science

State & Church
US Supreme Court ducks decision on 10 commandments
Comment: Includes the classic "You were refering to Christianity, like it's a religion. But,it's not." Best of Woahnellie

God vs. evolution
This website is so ass-backwards it's funny
Comment: On proof of existence of God: "Go look in the mirror, and that's your proof. You are living breathing evidence my friend. The Bible isn't man made, It was written through man, but it was God's words. You could says God's inspiration." This thread is absolutely packed with gems. Best of Woahnellie

Homosexuals
Why banning of homosexual marriage shouldn't be allowed
Comment: "The instituion of marriage originated in Heaven, not in the goverment. But,Government only recongnizes it, Therefore the government can't change the definition." I guess that's reductio ad absolutely ridiculous in a new disguise. Best of Woahnellie

The Scientists Bluff Exposed
Comment:The epic battle between the Hare Krsna & the frog minded rascal scientists!

French ban hijabs (head-scarves)
Comment:Arbiter finally admits being a creationist!

Fights About Iraq, War on Terrorism, etc.

US vs. Europe
For FuzzyGreen and others prefering the "freedom" of the US
Comment: Killer Nellie argument "Trust me" is swiftly followed by arctic outrage. As perhaps indicated by the title, FuzzyGreen makes an appearance too. Best of Woahnellie. She's everywhere! PDD MVP!

Iraq
Wmd?
Comment: Includes "I'm not the one that is Naive here" and "Admit it, Mr.Bush was right. There were, and are WMD's." Is also the thread were arctic starts getting upset with the poor lunatic.

Definitions
US The meaning of terrorism
Comment: Classical PDD thread where Smiley and Diginut is debating what the definition of the word terrorism really is - something that would only happen in the PDD. In true PDD spirit no one wants to give in, and the debate goes on for 10 pages, with a total of almost 50 000 words, impressive!

Other threads

Getting to know each other
PDD - Member's World Map
Comment: The thread about our locations. Ought to have been a sticky IMO.

Getting to know each other
Irrational behaviour by PFRs
Comment: "Weaknesses" of the PFRs. There's some really hillarious comments in this thread I think.

The gullible COR
oh my god
Comment: A brutal stunt played on those of the other side. The fun starts at page 5. You can pretty much skip anything up to there. Maybe the humour is a bit esoteric, though.

The Story of Mustard
Comment: I would quote the review, but it's too long, and is the main reason to check that thread out anyway

Palestine vs Israel

palestinians threaten to bomb america! and people scorn israel!??!
Comments: Shlomo's memorable introduction to the forums. His tenure here was short-lived, but certainly explosive. Also included, what must be two of Wicked Neo's longest posts here as he explains how he shall rule, Tu_face (yes, he was around back then!) threatens to shut down the forum (PDDers subsequentely rise up to defend their right to exist here and here), and all havoc breaks loose as everyone accuses everyone of racism.

Logic/Philosophy/Freedoms

What's the point of this?
Comment: Don't let the first couple posts fool you. This is no Israel vs. Palestine thread. If I were to imagine a deathmatch between Plato vs. Aristotle in the octagon, this would the closest thing I've seen. If ever a thread were to justify the warning given before entering this forum: "Enter with caution & a dictionary" it would be this debate. Marvel as Tathi and Arbiter throw down the gloves...

there is no G-d? religion is bull? read this and I DARE YOU TO ARGUE
Comment: It starts off as a thread about evolution, but in retrospect it doesn't hold a candle compared to the Heinz/WoahNellie/Opus threads. IMO, the meat of it begins when it starts delving into the philosophy of a higher power, religion, and the kitchen sink. You know it's a good thread when it starts going into astronomy and phsyics. Feel free to doubt me, but just listen to the rave reviews from the fondly remembered, dearly departed DJBARON: "this is the BEST DISCUSSION I'VE SEEN EVER ON THIS BOARD!!! AMAZING!!!!!! FINALLY TRUE INTELLECTUALISM UNFOLDS!!!!!!!!!" Need I say more?

free choice?
Comment: St_Andrew suggests a theory that claims the universe and the individuals in it are all deterministic, and then stretches that further towards a need for totalitariaism (with some help from occrider )

Hm, what was that thread where Arbiter and someone else (tathi I think) engaged in an argument using hundreds of words, 90% of which I had to go look in the dictionary?

Ok, I'll start ...

Palestine vs Israel

palestinians threaten to bomb america! and people scorn israel!??!

I figure we can maintain this running list style like the 'post event parties' threads in the local forums. Of course classics are all relative so we can weed out inferior "classics" as we add to the list.

It's cool, I'm still waiting for Occ to get back to me on that video I've repeatedly asked him to watch.
