Monkey Dancer 2 JazzNbass-PassiePassion [DnB 160 Bpm]-[Var Trax]

Here is a basic inspiration mix of one of my chill jazzy dnb tracks.
Lined up the inspirational melodic elements after each other
I think i overdid this one could be 3 songs ,so many melodies [10;57]
So now i will have to pick the melodic parts that i like most
And then make a new buildup with those parts only
I think i will make 2 songs out of it
Cos now there is too much in there i fear , i like it but think most find it a lil much hihi

Artist: PassiePassion
Title: JazzNbass
Genre: Drum N Bass , Break Beat
Speed: 160 Bpm
Time: 10;57

Some info that might be useful for starting musicians
To add something educational to the topic.

EnJoY.

Old version
I made the rhythm on a hiphop kit
Cos i created this one to become a vocal track.
Now i will turn it over to an instrumental song
I first made the melodies and drums on 80 bpm
Later i doubled the speed of the song to 160 bpm

Inspirational tip
On the end part i use a nice dnb trick that could be inspiring.
Before the tempo change i saved the midi of 2 of the melodies
If you do that and later change the tempo
Then you get a melody running at double speed
And that gives a nice energetic feeling to the song
Listen 5;12 and 7.36 to understand what i mean
Perhaps a thing you'd also like to experiment with

Tip for improving drum sounds
I started the song as RapRagga so used a hiphop drumkit
If you speed up a hiphop loop to drum n bass speed
Then the sounds of the drums change too
So i needed to pitch my drum sounds up to that speed to give it a more dnb feel

You can do this by comparing your drum sounds
To the sounds on a released dnb song that plays at the same speed as your song.
Or just do it as taste wants off course
Most samplers have Tune and or Fine Tune on the main screen [I got both on my exs-24]
So for a fast try you can change the pitch of all drumsounds in the kit at ones that way

* This is also smart to do if you make other sorts of music
Drumkits with single sounds are nice
But you do need to edit the speed every now and then
Give it a try if you never did this
You'll be amased at how much nicer you can let your song sound that way
And then your drums don't sound the same on every song you use the kit on

Think i wait one more day with finishing my dnb song.
Then i got it out of my mind and can edit it better.

So today i finished some hiphop instrumental beats.
I thought not to post em here since it's a trance forum.
But will add em here as an extra for those who are interested to hear it.

Swing Ops-PassiePassion
This is hiphop beat with a swing rhythm [110 Bpm]

Sax Attack-PassiePassion
This is another hiphop beat playing at 90 Bpm

Pain-PassiePassion
A hiphop beat made for some emotional lyrics [97 bpm]

Really cool stuff mam - really nice blend of jazzy flavor and DnB rhythm/groove.

I'm not new to smooth jazz concept as I'm listening to it almost every day for last (I would say over) 20 years - and you capture this soul and concept of this genre rather well my friend.

One think if I could suggest is to add some chillout part/element or section to this production (what about around 3:58 mark) to let your listener have some cooling-down time to this rather fast BPM. This guitar introduce in about 3:58 min would be a perfect element to slow it nicely and rewind this tempo again in about a min for example.

Just mu $0.02

Cheers,

Darek

K, about JazzNBass. You need to focus your song. Right now it meanders around for more than 10 minutes. I like the idea, but it needs to be better structured. There are no breakdowns or build ups right now. It is a cool idea but it needs more work!

@ Darek

I'll give that a look certainly agree.
I need to create a break drown part cos now it goes on too long.
Think i will take it half tempo will look at that moment you pointed out
First wanted to make it 2 songs
But i kinda like em all together
Just need to rearrange and make that break part
In the end i repeat a couple of times ,so can make less copies
Than i can shorten the track a lot already

Great that you hear what i'm trying to do.
I'm not a daily jazz listener
But know what the feel is like to me music is feeling
And i wanted an old feel thats why i use the rhodes for the lead
I love Motown ,my parents played it when i was a kid
And i really think those things influence what you later play hihi
Really glad to read that a knower of jazz understands it

@ Trancelover03591

Yeah i lined up all elements ,the main melody [Rhodes]
And just dropped the beat on it and made some mutes
This is just the main idea no breakdown in it yet
First i try to set a feeling an emotion that you get from the notes
So tell a story in the song
Then after i will make some breaks in it or make a main break

I also want to change some things to the drums
If you listen to the start then you don't hear that double snare
Later the breakbeat rhythm has those 2 snares hitting after each other
So i'm changing that already and i pitched all drums up
Am thinking about pitching down some of the drum sounds

I'll up the older version with old unpitched drums
Then you hear there are more sounds in the drums
Cos of the pitch you don't hear some parts in the drum
But i found the kick and snare non suiting for 160 bpm

Its a work in progress
Here is the old version with unpitched drumkits
And as you hear the bass is off note on this version too

The unpitched drums do give it a more accoustic and older feel
So i do want to get some of them pitched back to get a bit of that feel back
Will play around with that

It is just very lite and easygoing music. Which is fine. Kenny G has made a fortune making background music. I am interested to see how it turns out. You seem to make a really wide variety of music which is admirable.

I like how you write
it it kind of like
you are writing
poetry

Grab one track/composition from each of those below names and listen to it (you could find it on YouTube for free probable) - will get you some composition sense or maybe an additional idea of what to do next.

Just a few names from long, long list of smoothjazz artist:

1) Gato Barbieri
2) Peter White
3) Keiko Matsui
4) Grover Washington, Jr
5) Najee
6) Eric Darius
7) Richard Elliot
8) Dave Koz

and more.........

Cheers,

Darek

= Re pitched various drum sounds
= Changed bunch of notes in drums and bass
= Added a string and made a break
= Changed the chord lines as i felt it was better as jungle feel
= And deleted some of the melodies
Like the double speed experiment on one of the 2 melodies
But the other made me feel nervous , so i took that one out
= And i obviously shorted the song

But turned the song more into an old style jungle song
That suited best imo
