I finally have the energy to write some sort of that review after that long weekend.
I started off things pretty early friday night with Chaska at Sullivan Room. It was my first time there and thanks to Sleepy&Boo for everything. I wasn't too impressed with Jody's set but had a good time nevertheless. I also ended up at National Underground then few afterhour activities and get home around 6pm. I definitely brought NYE in style but sleeping right through it
I ended up waking up sunday 1:30 with phone calls and messages asking if I was alive so I knew it was time to start the day. I left home around 2:30 and drove to a NYE party at Queens which was about 5 minutes away from Blkmkt. I did a little pregaming and knew it was time for Blkmkt. I've been going out for a while now and actually never been to one of these before but I was easily convinced
I got to Blkmkt right when Stacey Pullen got on the decks. I heard about from friends that had difficulty getting into the venue but it was pretty easy once I got there. The venue ended up being the type of place I thought it would be but was impressed with the sound/lights. Music was on point and really enjoyed Stacey Pullen's set. It was what I exactly wanted to hear and Quenum had it going well real good except for that part when those down tempo beats kicked in (which i couldn't bear an hour after getting there). Alexi Delano & Kondrad Black set was pretty impressive and really loved every minute of it until it was time to leave. It was my first time at a Blkmkt and I can't believe I missed out on the fun. The vibe at the party was perfect and didn't see quite see a party before where everybody was having so much fun.
TA Crew was definitely out bringing 2012 with techno; Chaska,Bobby,Shely,Jen, Gabriel. It was great seeing some of you again and meeting some new ones (forgot some names after meeting many, sorry in advance!)
I left Blkmkt with Chaska (after some easy convincing) for Apocalypse @ Pier 94 w/ Boris/Victor Calderone. Getting to the venue was pretty quick and the weather was gorgeous for January. It was very quick getting into the venue but had a little difficulty finding the place because I was just expecting a huge dome. It was actually just more than that and the place was huge. I also couldn't believe this is the first time an event will actually be held there.
Pros:
The place is huge, well suited for parties at a larger scale.
It was very easy getting in and out of the venue. There was plenty of parking if you were driving.
The soundsystem is the best I heard from a venue of that size. The sound was so crisp, tuned right and the bass wasnt overbearing.
Victor Calderone was on point and it was probably one of my favorite sets
Cons:
They could do get in a whole lot more people by not charging that much at the door
The bathroom situation was ridiculous and I have never something managed that bad in my life. I'd rather not get into details here, i'l leave that to Andrew
The party ended a bit too early. 5:15pm? Victor Calderone was on the mic apologizing everyone for ending the early.
It was great going to party with Chaska and I know she definitely liked it. It was awesome seeing my partner in crime Andrew going all out and harassing every girl that came near him. Anthony, you did end up running a bit late and missing most of it but I hope that won't be the case for DEMF. I can't wait for DEMF and looking forward to hanging with all my TAers there and upcoming parties. Andrew; do the right thing and make time from your schedule
One last point, I know there seems to be this crowd issue. Yes, I do know that there were hordes of shirtless gay men, guidos in full force, trannys showing off their dance moves/pink dresses, and slutty girls in who wears the highest heels competition. But in the end, everyone was having a good time and not one person were being rude to me or did anything inappropriate that ruined my experience. I go out to his parties for the music and enjoy the time with my friends, not stare around me and see what other people are doing. Isn't that the whole point? Victor Calderone played a great set and you could see that he was enjoying himself. He played a show at Florida for NYE and flew over for this and didn't show that he was tired at all.
In the end, I barely slept the whole weekend and I have friends telling me why I look so depressed. But these are the people that weren't out with me and had no idea how much fun I had this weekend. Thanks to everyone for making it fun and thanks to Chaska for DEMF training program. I hope I passed ;-)
