Dood, it must have an aux, and otherwise get one of them bluetooth to radio signal dongles.

I was going to crack a joke about car stereos that only play CDs... but then I remembered that, until quite recently, the car I drove only had a cassette player, and I'd have to use an A/V cable attached to a cassete tape to play music from my iPod

Anyway, going to my wife's farm, and we'll commemorate her dad's death tomorrow night. Not usual around here, but a pretty cool concept, and we'll feast and light up some incense in his memory.

Is it really that bonkers back home? Or just the press making it seems like doomsday?

And California is years-long droughts, raging wildfires and catastrophic mud slides. And for every Brexit blunder, just sub in the latest Trump debacle. "Life continues as normal for most people" isn't a news story.

There's a general feeling of uncertainty here, and the sense that a recession is inevitable in the near future. But employment is also at a record high and wage growth is now outstripping inflation again. We'd probably be enjoying a boom time if half the country had realised the consequences of voting Out two years ago.

I get what you;re saying but I'm not really bothered about whatabboutisms; We had decentish rainfall here this year and last year, to the point the drought was very nearly cancelled (although it's not going to rain that much going forward so we'll be back to hosepipe bans etc). The mudslides affected the areas 90 miles north of LA in rural areas. That's like saying there were mudslides in Peterborough so London must be fucked.

We also get the wildfires nearly year. None of this is anything new, like shit weather isn't anything unusual in the UK.

The difference with Trump is (and don't get me wrong, it's a raging clusterfuck) is that all the collusion talk, him paying hush money to porn stars, endlessly firing people, people going to jail, etc doesn't affect our day to day lives, say how brexit will (i.e. borders, freedom of movement, currency, customs, even flight and travel prices etc). cali is booming, shit the states is booming despite Trump's chaotic and farcical management (or better said lack thereof). Everyone with a brain more or less believes this is a 4 year cash grab so we just have to weather it out and the best part is that Congress and Senate can't get anything done so everything Trump does by Executive order can just as quickly be undone by the next president in the flick of a pen stroke. Not the way to run a country long term but at least very few parts of what Trump has done so far are irreversible, and with that in mind, people just think this cringey chapter will hopefully fade in a few years.

That's what I was more wondering about. What is the feeling and how does it actually affect day to day life, becuase if I believed the UK news, everything is about to go to shit. It seems it's not and there's just an feeling of impending doom (which in fairness is part of the British DNA).

It wasn't a whatabboutism. My point is that my view of where you live is exactly the same in reverse, because you only hear the bad news. You're well placed to tell me that all that apocalyptic shit I read about doesn't impact your life, and I can tell you that a couple of minor crime waves in London mean precisely jack shit in terms of how most of the country goes about with our lives.

Yeah, but none of those details are confirmed yet yet, and due to the transition they won't even come into effect until 2021 anyway. It's just a bunch of incompetent politicians jostling for power at that moment, and we all stand around and shrug and wait for things to actually get nailed down.

Holy fuck that has been my entire work week. For some reason our company waited until the last second to all hands on deck the engineers so they could jam this JavaScript onto every site we own. We had probably two months of sitting there with out thumbs up our ass then we push everything out last second. Ugh

That's kinda what I'm trying to get my head around. The mudslides happen in one areas vaguely near one large city in one state of 50, a country of nearly 360m people. London is the capital, but I hear about rampant acid attacks in Brum, stabbings in Manc, cars ramming crowds in Newport, etc. Sure, we get mass shootings weekly in every state here but gun violence isn't something new, and it *seems* as if violence on the whole in the UK is in some massive surge?

This is actually really helpful, because the news paints it as everything having already fallen apart and the UK is a knife edge from complete devolution. It sounds more like it's a bit of a cluster politically but doesn't matter right now and may not even matter, so everyone is just carrying on.
