anyway, Nara is easily the best place for old japan, you can get a short train ride there from kyoto and it has some of the best stuff you'll ever see by way of shrines and temples, PLUS there's wild deer all over the fkn place!!!
was japan's first capital, before kyoto even, but these days is remote enough to have missed out on bombings etc, which means some of japan's oldest temples etc are still intact, compared to those in the cities which are mostly concrete remakes (if not from wwii destructions then from other wars before that)
it is awesome.
these were online already, i cbfd uploading pictures of the deer, but they roam all over the national park area, which is a huge area with all old shrines etc, and there's vending machines to buy food for them all around where you can get them crackers and stuff
