I've been enjoying a lot of minimal stuff lately, but I want to say that I'm really glad you're taking the route you are.
It's kind of annoying to hear Tiesto, Armin, Markus Schulz, Gabriel & Dresden (their recent EM is just appalling) etc. drop the latest (or even 1-2 years old) tracks that are completely unlike their styles. These tracks aren't their identity, they're just popular. The fact that Markus was dropping Yoshimoto - Du What U Du (Trentemoller Mix) on his show, which is supposed to showcase new tracks, months after Lee Burridge had already put it on a major release is just sad. Armin and Tiesto dropping Oxia - Domino gets the same opinion from me.
I go to see certain types of DJs (or even specific DJs) to hear specific styles of music. If I want to hear minimal, I'll catch Hawtin, Loco Dice, Villalobos, etc. If I want to hear trance, I should be able to listen to Armin, PvD, Tiesto, etc., but instead, they're dropping the same tracks, trying to accomodate to the new hot style.

+ 1 my friend.
My only point of disagreement would be to say that during a live set a dj should be able to play whatever track comes to him or fits in his set, be it minimal, trance, electro, etc. Schulz dropping year old minimal tracks on a radio show that prides itself on nouveau sound is one thing, but I take no more offense to Armin playing domino in a set than I do to him playing mindcircus, an equally old track. Now, it's a little bogus for armin to say on asot that we have "missed out" on domino (just cause he hasn't played it) but, frankly, when he dropped the track in dc, it went well with the other tracks he surrounded it with, so I can hardly take offense to. It seems shortsighted to pidgeon hole a dj to a genre simply because it's the one he made his name with. Just my .02

Exactly. For example Digweed was mainly known as a big progressive house/trancey dj for years and look at the releases he has put out recently such as Fabric 20/Transitions which are clearly neither genre. So I think it's more important for a dj to have a reputation as putting out fresh, quality music whatever genre it is and making it work with a good flow in sets rather than being known as a "minimal dj,electro dj,trance dj etc" and only being confined to that genre. When it comes down to it I think that tracks should only be labeled simply "something I like" vs. "something I don't like" and dj's should be labeled as "he/she plays that are cool to me and make me wanna dance" or "he/she plays tracks that bore me"

I think my major complaint isn't what you're talking about, but it's about the blatant whoring of the "what's popular now" stuff, even when it doesn't fit.
