John '00' Fleming - Nine Lives (JOOF098)
John 00 Fleming admits he's a DJ first, hence why it's taken him this long to present his debut solo artist album. Touring the Worlds clubs and festivals, Gold disc selling mix compilations, award winning Essential mixes, producing TV/Movie scores has sucked away precious studio time.
Being one of the few producers that actually produces his own music these days, Fleming has spent every single precious moment of his time working on each track to make it exactly how he visions it in his head, this is what makes all of his productions so successful and unique. Quality over quantity as the saying goes.
'Nine lives' represents a new turning point for him, Fleming being a dedicated supporter of the more specialist scene. John is going back to his roots, making music solely aimed for the dance floor with no care for the commercial mainstream. Music with soul. Music with passion. Music to represent the artist within. We think this album truly represents John 00 Fleming and his love for the more specialist music scene. Eventually an album with depth, releasing a musical story. This is one of those rare listening albums from start to finish. Yet most tracks will be heard on the dance floor, this proves the true artist within, a rare skill/breed in todays electronic World, as all the tracks are professionally written for himself, and not mainstream success. Thats where the big difference lies.
This is your chance to experience the true artist behind the name, John 00 Fleming.

“Trance has become a dirty word, we need to return to the ethos of how this genre gained this tag in the beginning. History shows underground djs move the scene forward to I want to show clubland there’s a more serious and soulful side to trance” John 00 Fleming
John shares a track by track guide of Nine Lives:
John 00 Fleming - ‘The Winds Of Change Are Blowing’
There’s no hiding the fact I feel pain with the current scene, this track was written when I looked back at my favourite times of when the music first took place. I took inspiration from the past and reminisced as I wrote this piece of music, it was a very emotional yet powerful week in the studio as I wrote this. Eventually I feel change is coming.
John 00 Fleming vs. Airwave - ‘United 93’
I’ve known Airwave for well over a decade, so why it took us this long to get in the studio I have no idea. We sat in his studio chatting about our favourite tracks, our favourite moments while playing the ones that were special to us. By the end of the day United 93 was born completely fuelled with passion.
John 00 Fleming - ‘MMX1215’
Before I begin to write a piece of music, I often look to my DJ box to see what style I’m missing in order to fill that gap. Again I keep looking back in order to move forward as the current market place doesn’t offer me inspiration. Remember when Progressive Trance, actually used to be Progressive Trance ? So do I!
John 00 Fleming - ‘Dense Clouds’ (Feat. Sona Mohapatra)
Much of my inspiration for this album stemmed from my trips to India. On one particular trip my good friend Nikhill Chinipa introduced me to one of India’s finest singers, Sona Mohapatra. Before we knew it, we where discussing plans to write a track together. This style pushed me in a completely different direction alongside co-producer Mad Maxx.
John 00 Fleming - ‘A Far Off Place’ (Feat. Joanna Swann)
I adore Joanna’s voice, there’s something morish about it. It’s hypnotising and sends me into dreamland. The music was written to accompany the texture of her voice, I kept picturing myself on a secluded beach writing this and still today it takes me back to that Astral projection state.
John 00 Fleming - ‘Baphomets Horn’
This was written as a DJ tool from the off. No huge breakdowns. No power super saws (!). It’s a filler track to make a bridge between energy levels or to join genres. These type of tracks are the most important tools in any proper DJ’s record box, something that is overlooked in todays generation.
John 00 Fleming - ‘Finding Ganesha’
I think I should be Indian due to the amount of times I visit this wonderful country. It’s coincidental that I kept coming to India around Ganesh Chaturthi a festival celebrate the birthday of their Indian God Ganesha. I was given a gift of a wooden carving of Ganesha who watched over me as I made this track in the studio.
John 00 Fleming - ‘Fight The Darkness’ (Feat Sascha Cooper)
I often get weird, wonderful and strange ideas flying around in my head. These then get transformed into music, hence why I make the tracks myself. I wondered what it would be like if I added poetry into Trance? I guess it worked with help from Sascha Cooper. Oh then I added a little Goa melody for added flavour!
John 00 Fleming - ‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Night’
No harm in having a banter with my track titles…yes a little tongue in cheek. The market is saturated with people who can’t DJ, I see this plenty of times when on the road touring. I often have to restart the night and build the crowd. It’s a shame the skill of a DJ is being lost.
John 00 Fleming - ‘Bumble Lights (Feat Joanna Swann)’
Every album should have a fun moment and I think this one hits the spot perfectly. I have no intention to become a pop star or make commercial Trance records, hence the different musical direction. It was fun working with vocals and writing another song with Joanna Swan, but that’s where it stops.
John 00 Fleming - ‘New Beginning’
I often get asked what track that I’m proud of, I’d have to say New beginning. When released I felt it got overlooked as people headed for the more banging flipside ‘Temple of spice’, but this was also at a time of the Euro Trance revolutions. Times are changing now as we see Trance reinventing itself. I wanted people to revisit it.
John 00 Fleming - ‘1440 Minutes’
I took me 24 hours to make this track with no rest in between. Aha, now the penny has dropped and you get the title! I had this track idea in my head for many years, it took the back burner for a while until the day I unleashed some banging madness in my studio!
John 00 Fleming - ‘Trancelucent (Feat. Intervurt)’
This band are local to me and I first got introduced to them via my old publishing company. I instantly knew I could make one of their indie esq tracks into an electronic version. Contact was made and ‘Trancelucent’ was born. I can’t stop playing this track, very catchy!
John 00 Fleming - ‘Never Forgotten’
This track was written a long time ago, at a time when I was feeling pretty sad. That current week the Worlds news was focussing on wars that where happening around the World. I don’t and will never understand wars. It saddens me to see loss of life on both sides. On this particular day our local news showed fallen heroes returning home in coffins. They will never be forgotten.
John 00 Fleming - ‘Frisson’
Again another track that was written a while back, but I think it deservers a place for my album. This could have easily been a 00.db track as it was written around the same time as the 00.db album, so you can hear that I was in 00.db mode! I actually kept getting Frisson writing this, hence the name!
John 00 Fleming vs. E-Clip - 'Sym*bol*ism’
There’s a connection between how I meet the closest friends around me. The Digital Blonde, Christopher Lawrence, Airwave, Micky Noise and now E-Clip. That connection is our shared passion for music. I mean true serious music. This brings a warmly feeling you are not alone and have family support. It was a true honour to make a track with Marko (E-Clip). |
