Heh. How do you become famous in Australia then? In the media and in the academia, how did John Safran and Peter Singer become well known if outliers are always pulled down? |
Lilith summed it up, extremely well in fact! I would say the 'bogans' are a larger population, but the intelligentsia are often more active, or more supportive of what they like, since they feel like the bogans are always out to shut down their 'artistic' shit--
shows like john safran and the chasers war on everything have really huge followings which for the most part counter the extreme opposition which often comes from the more conservative bogans
its kind of funny because the tall poppy/underdog shit works in both bogan and 'progressive' branches-- the progressives try and pull down the big bogans while rooting for the underdog progressives (john safran for example), while the bogans do the same, heavily supporting the super conservatives who get ripped on by the intelligentsia, while trying to tear down the intelligentsia's tall poppys (again, john safran quite often gets criticised)
the bogans are a bigger population so you hear more from them, and the intelligentsia are victims of tall poppy shit more often because of that
lilith made a brilliant point that in aus its not so much of a money, or even cultural or geographical divide but is more about identity groups-- you get the 'progressives' coming from all over the place, often kids of bogans try to 'better' their 'backward' parents etc, even if they come from super-bogan areas for example
