Alright, so I finally took the time and listened to all of the other mixes. Some really great stuff in here, good job to everybody!
ziptnf - Electric Summer (Summertime Vibes)
This was the first mix I took a listen to, as I've got a bit of affection for synthwave. Phaserland - Smolder and Beckett - Rush. The mix started fairly laid back, reminiscent of sitting around in your backyard with a beer on a hot summer day, then continued to up the vibe to where you were racing around in your '86 Testarossa on a hot summer day. Very fun mix, will have to revisit it when it's not 20 degrees out here!
Mr. Mystery - The Demon Inside (Horror)
This was one I was pretty excited to hear, though I'm not a fan of horror movies/games/etc, the category meant it was almost guaranteed to attract something different from the traditional electronic music popular on the forum. It really feels like the soundtrack to an obscure B-horror movie, and has some pretty diverse soundscapes - the chilling 'illbient' of Silentwave.01, to death metal, to the bone-cold industrial of Akira Yamanoka (so happy you took my suggestion into consideration!), and to the droning track from Sunn (O)))), which feels like a dark ritual is about to take place. The only song that I felt didn't work was the spastic IDM of Autechre, was a bit out of place. But for the rest of the mix, I was able to nearly recreate a whole horror movie in my head due to the strong atmospherics and visuals I associated with the tracks.
the-sixth - Urbanity (Urbanity)
I really liked the start of this mix, with the glossy, crystalline synth tones, the chanting in Napier and Farewell Waters of Life conjuring up a bustling ethnic enclave. Liked Rabbit Mountain so much I swiped it for my mix But then, the mix promptly changes direction into cold, harsh techno... felt like going from a bright, warm, South Asian metropolis, to a decaying rust belt city during an arctic blast. The direction didn't really work for me since I was loving the early vibe so much. But the mixing was pretty good and you have some standout tracks on here.
AlphaStarred - Underwater Conspiracy (Underwater)
It was cold, dark, industrial, bubbling with acid riffs and varied in its beat structure. Mixing was pretty well done considering the diversity of beat structures and tempos on display here. Felt like it was taking place during an alternate-universe Shape of Water, where the sea creature completely ransacks the aquatic research lab the movie took place in. The breakbeat/electro tracks were probably my favorite. Slightly challenging listen for me but rewarding.
Sand Leaper - Peak Hours (Pride Vibes)
Opening with a cover of Sylvester's gay anthem, Mighty Real, I was excited for something that would be chock full of over-the-top, flamboyant, wailing diva house music. The next few songs, with their disco-y strings and diva vocal snippets, made me feel like I was in the midst of a pride parade. But then the direction shifted to more bass, moomba, and hiphop structures, which totally lost me. Then, back to some NY Hard House sounds, which I have a lot of nostalgia for, as catching a lot of the hard house radio shows in the mid 90's and buying Junior Vasquez mix CDs was some of my earliest exposure to underground electronic music. And then some all-time classic tracks, followed by a brief excursion into melodic 90's prog house (Antidote - Eclipse, which I fell in love with thanks to this mix). You have a really broad taste in music and I am constantly impressed with your crate digging skill, but I feel that you had so many songs you want to play out and so many different vibes you wanted to convey in this mix, that the set progression felt a bit schizophrenic.
Dave King - Escape To The West (Driving)
I listened to the majority of these mixes while commuting by car to my job in central Long Island. So here's a mix with a theme I'm able to quickly relate to. It had a bunch of chuggy tech-prog and melodic trance, genres I'm quite fond of. So yeah, this one definitely worked for me. Lots of big tunes here both current and classic, with a 4x4 version of an all-time favorite to end it. Very nice mix that'll help me deal a bit better with the traffic congestion on the LIE :P
