And I just saw Trust. Just because it deals with the same subject matter as Hard Candy (and vaguely at that) doesn't make it a valid recommendation for someone who enjoyed the latter. One is a melodrama, the other is a thriller. Both are well done for what they were attempting to do, but I just think Hard Candy had a lot more to it.

Trust was enjoyable, and it's something I'd recommend to drama fans without a problem, but it's not good enough to be in my big recommendations list above, for instance. Not even something I'd watch a second time.

You are undoubtedly right that it was unfair of me to recommend Trust based solely on your admitting that you really enjoyed Hard Candy. You didn't note what you really liked about Hard Candy though, so it was more of a shot in the dark than anything else. I think you're assertion that Hard Candy has a lot more too it is baseless, though.

I feel that in my response to your previous post, some denouncements may have come off as being tainted with vitriol but that really wasn't my intention and I'm sorry if you took it the wrong way. Suggesting that Trust "isn't even something [you'd] watch a second time" seemed to reference my comment regarding Dogville. Perhaps I was a bit harsh? I'll say this - I appreciated that film, as Von Trier is undoubtedly a master of the craft and it shows in nearly everything he does, but, as an American, I just can't identify or agree with what he was trying to do with that movie as it was just so...unreasonable.

On the issue of the first two movies - it's just a case of 'different strokes...' I suppose. I will say this - both movies were very well scripted and well acted. Also, for what it's worth, Trust is sitting somewhere in my favorite movies of the year so far list.

I hadn't seen all of the movies that you recommended and a few managed to really pique my interest. I'll certainly let you know what I think of em

W/r/t your 'to watch' list - I've seen a couple, haven't ever heard of some of em, and hated some of them. Keep us updated on which you really enjoy. I think Cell 211 was fucking awesome. I want to type out more about the film, but anything I say could very well give stuff away. I loved how the movie progressed - it was almost impossible to guess what was coming. Another thing I loved, and something that I love about many foreign films, is how it didn't prescribe to any typical Hollywood formula. There's no true 'hero' and no true 'villain' in this one - just people who make reasonable decisions based on the situations they find themselves in. Enjoy it

I didn't mean it as an objective judgment, rather a personal one. I was significantly more interested in what Hard Candy wanted to say and show than what Trust did.

Only as far as Rubber goes.

Not at all. It wasn't something I said spitefully, nor was I prompted to it by your opinion of Dogville. Most often I enjoy watching good movies more than once, I was just clarifying the same doesn't carry over in Trust's case, partially because I feel there's nothing to gleam from a second viewing. The writing is good in that everything makes sense, but it's not great in that there's nothing deeper to it.

Watched Shadows and Lies.
Great acting, good cinematography, cliched story, and a way too limited incidental soundtrack.
Imagine if you took a normal gangster film and attenuated it... the action, the dialog, the speed... everything. You'd get Shadows and Lies.
It had one scene I absolutely loved, and two more I enjoyed quite a bit too. Those should've served as some introspective contrast in a normal gangster film, but as they are, they were just some nifty highlights of a huge borefest. The movie also asks you to fill in a lot of the important details by yourself, and I just don't think it deserves the effort.
Interesting experiment, but not much entertainment value.

i don't know if it hasn't been brought up or not, or why ....

but why didn't anyone tell us Nou is in the hit movie 'Bridesmaids'?

we have a successful movie actor on TA people!

btw, Bridesmaids get my 2 thumbs up. fills all the points in my checklist for a successful "you are an over 35 female, not married, feel under the hill, and you want to either use the world as a way to lash out your personal miseries" type of comedy. i like it. yes it's geared for the chics, but i think the dudes will enjoy it just as much.

LOL you guys didn't know I was Matt Lucas. Actually, I am wearing a beard so lately I've been confused as Tim Harrington...

ANYWAYS.

Watched Hanna this weekend. Was bad ass. Killer soundtrack, amazing action, fucking crazy visuals, and a decent story to boot.

I recommend Senna and you don't have to be a F-1 fan to enjoy it.

I recommend "Chuckie's Seed" (something like that) to anyone looking for a good idiotic mindless, not-so-standard dark comedy. Full of win, son.

I watched Take Me Home Tonight.

Enjoyed it, it was like a tribute to John Hughes films in a way. Set in the 80s, 80s soundtrack, centering around one party.
