On some level, it has always seemed somewhat dicey to me to get someone else's art inked on you, more than anything. Obviously people formulate their own reasons for doing so, and come up with exponentially more justifications, but getting something you actually designed to adorn your body is a more significant act. It's in some way more free, and more in contrast to the permanence people take for granted - it's a statement in the sense that nothing lasts forever, so you might as well make use of what you're given for your personal vandalism. But perhaps this is the same logic that thinks smoking is cool. Which it is, so fuck off, you straights!
