mace is not going to help you when confronting a gun.
I hate to say this, but do what you must to survive, even if it means submitting to the guy holding a gun.
also keep in mind that some people do not feel the effect of mace or pepper spray at all.

you should come over to the martial arts thread with us. BBJ is the ultimate in rape prevention. its as if thats solely what it was designed for. The guard and mount positions are two of the most dangerous possitions you can have someone in, and anyone trying to sleep with you pretty much has to be in one or the other, so they are screwing themselves. (bad pun not intended)
and in BJJ tecnique is highly prized over size. people often submitt attackers twice thier size.

actually years ago at my first class of Japanese Jiu-jitsu I was sparing with a girl about 14 years old and she got me in a lock that I didn't know the escape to... so yeah she got me.
knowledge is power.
even back then I was close to twice her size and she still submitted me. It was that class that I payed for then next 6 months up front to show my dedication to learning it the Japanese version. I prefer BJJ for practicle reasons as I'm better suited to it, but JJJ offers a good alternative if you still want the standing up aspect in your trainning as opposed to always being on the ground with BJJ.

like I've said, my ego in martial arts has been put in check many times. I know when I'm beat... as embarrasing as it may have been, I was determined to learn from it not let it happen again.
in my (minor)defense she was a brown belt and had been trainning in jiu-jitsu since she was 9. although its really not much of a defense.
I've also spent a year in rehab for not tapping out when I should have and had to learn that the hard way after I had my shoulder surgically reconstructed.
