While you may see them as products, many people still consider film art, an expression of what matters to them, and they can cover their costs plus make a couple bucks in doing so. They probably don't care if Billy Ray and Bobby sue in Nebraska spend their hay ride money on tickets to see their movie. They are happy that the Americans they do represent enjoy them and pay to do so.

I get the whole "art" thing, but it's also a business... big business. And when a type of movie consistently rakes in much less than it cost to produce, suddenly that happiness to please a minority of the American's they do represent goes away. Green Zone cost $100 million to make, plus an additional $40 million to market. It made $35 million in the United States. I'm sure those people who put up the money are thrilled that the anti-war crowd is satisfied.

Don't get me wrong, it's obviously way more of a business than an art thing. My comment was more directed at that family with two moms flick (I forget the name) that sparked this debate. I did like Green Zone, but I think there's more to it's lackluster sales. I didn't know it had done so badly.

*SPOILERS FOR GREEN ZONE*

I'm guessing the reason you dislike it so much is because it accuses the Bush admin of creating false intel in order to start the invasion of Iraq. I really doubt that is the reason people decided not to go see it though, as that is something you don't find out until near the end.

EDIT: Just re-read your post, and see that you're talking more about anti-war movies overall (hadn't had my coffee yet ). My guess is people want to avoid politics when they go out on a Saturday night, but that really isn't a barometer for people's feelings in general.

Hmmmm, will give this a shot tomorrow.

Just watched Zombieland. Enjoyed it a lot.

Humourous film that wasn't over the top and saturated with slapstick comedy. Very much like Kick Ass.

just watched this movie

Mary & Max

this has got to be one of the best animated films i have seen in quite awhile. I have got to say this movie is better than toy story 3, up!, and wall-e. that being said, this is not your prototypical animated film. i love the dark touch the director gave the film. this is one of those rare movies that is going to touch every emotion you have in your body.

babel was good. gael garcia bernal is awesome.

so i saw Get Low tonight. what a fucking movie!!! i'd recommend it to all of you, without a doubt. my girl didn't like it so much - there wasn't exactly a huge pay off at the end. she felt like the climax was lacking big time. i disagreed- the movie was subtle it certainly didn't insist upon itself like so many movies do nowadays. ostensibly, it's a movie about life and death - but if you take it to be that alone you probably won't enjoy it. anyway, duvall will get an oscar nod for this one - and hopefully win. bill murray was great too. in fact, the whole cast was spectacular. go see it now.

I've been meaning to watch 'Get Low' when they were showing it here a couple of months ago. I've heard good things about it.

watched the movie 'Klass' last night.

not just your prototypical high school shooting movie. The director does a fine job giving the viewer both perspectives (the bully and the victim). I may be reading too much into it, but i feel there is also a slight metaphor into how society shapes an imaginary caste system to define themselves. Outside of that, gives a good definition of how much one has to go to defend his honor. I give this movie 2 thumbs up.
