I think Stu has the same if you are talking about the Canon.
I'd love a 300mm prime but I don't think I'd ever use it enough. Actually if I got into train photography seriously I could see myself using 300mm even up to 500mm because there are a lot of vantage points that you really need that reach to get good detail and composition in the mountains. You can see like 5 miles of track but you are like 2 miles away and 1500 feet above them.
Right now I need to replace my 50mm prime (seriously, I think everyone needs a 50mm prime, it forces you to do so much more and they usually fast and cheap, like... nm lol, bad joke) and I want something wider than my 24-105. I want my 17-70 back from Jake but it is EF-S and I am too much in love with full frame sensors to invest in any EF-S lenses.
Also anyone think its a crock that they market EF-S lenses with the effective focal length in 35mm/full frame still? At least I am 99% sure that they do. That 17mm was probably closer to 20-22mm effective.
