The other day I tried to watch a Documentary called High Tech Soul about the origins of techno. I went into it knowing "I've heard this story a zillion times before, but whatever - might be an entertaining watch".

However, it just turned into a big massive wank-fest between Derrick May / Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson. After about 30 mins into it, I just kept fast forwarding through parts.

They repeat the same points a zillion times, overly biased, and largely ignore what was going on in other parts of the world at the time in regards to electronic music.

It's a documentary about Detroit Techno, from a Detroit perspective - what else would you expect?

May does come across as an egotistical prat and a lot of the shit he spouts is mute-worthy, but otherwise, it's a good slice of Detroit music history for people who aren't so familiar with the genre, and a nice look back for those who are. Think my favourite part is Mills describing playing "Your Time Is Up" to his mom for the first time...

Really? I saw him on Canada Day here a couple of years ago and it was one of the best parties I've ever been to.

+ 1

Still one of the most underground and memorable parties I've been too.
