Time for me to post my little setup, sorry for the shabby pictures but im not the master photographer i would like to be.

OLD setup with the Behringer mixer:

NEW setup with the very min Allen & Heath XONE:92 Rotary:

Setup includes:
1x Denon DN-S5000
1x Allen & Heath XONE:92 Rotary
2x Technics 1210
1x Pioneer EFX-500
1x Pioneer SE-DJ5000

Plus that i changed the slipmats from to some slick pimpin white ones with Technics printed in gold. Looks really sleek.

On the side i have some Reloop turntables lying around and the old Behringer DJX-700 and a Numark 1001X mixer.

Thanx for a great thread, you provide alot of inspiration.

Awesome set up, I bet you can do some sick shit with the efx500 + Xone

What genre do you play?

Edit: what is that yellow thing that you hold your cdj and efx on?

The yellow thing is a bracket from Sefour, altho it was black in the beginning i spray painted it yellow to make it nicer to look at.

Im mostly in progressive house actually, drifting towards tech house on occassions however i dont use the efx-500 in a Zabiela way but find that
it can be awesome to set a mood by using it slooowly, it kinda fits prog house.
And that im a total geek when it comes to new stuff so im gonna buy a Kaoss KP2 in a month or so too, i just love gadgets.

Good choice, I just recently picked up an effects processor. I had alot of experience witht he efx500, and its wonderful, but so many well known djs have used before, and as we know some have basicly gotten famous using it, that I felt there would be too much originality that I could draw from it (plus it was 250 cheaper in canada). So I ended up picking up a kp2.

Its extremely different when compared to the efx, but I'm really growing to love it. At first alot of the effects seemed "cheesy" or obnoxious to me (especially the syth pads) but once I finally worked with it for a while and started using the more subtle effects, and learned to use them in a subtle manner, I absolutly fell in love with the thing. Right now I'm playing alot of odd records, darker prog, and darker ambient, and some glitchy stuff with noise layered over it here and there, and I found the reverbs to be absolutly killer for that on this thing. I used to find that working glitchy stuff into my sets was hard to do, because the glitchy stuff was too empty, and tinny, when mixed into alot of the other stuff, but simply adding the right reverb throughout the whole track (just touching the right sound I want and then giving hold a tap, and adjusting the wetness) would transform it into a more mixable sound.

When playing more generic sorts of dance music (techno) I love how the kp2 gives it more of a human sort of feel to the effect, or else it can be very mechanical sounding (like the efx) once you practice with it more. The samplers are great of course too.

The only downsides are, there are still some things the efx does that the kp2 doesnt, and there are some things that the efx just does a plain better job at than the kp2, but the variety and creativity on the kp2 makes up for that in so many ways. The biggest thing the efx has over the kp2 is that you can mix any 2 of the effects, while on the kp2 you can only use one effect at a time (but switching between effects is easy with the memo points) There are of course some effects programs on the kp2 that are a combination of 2 effects, but they are chosen for you, you cant mix and match. You can sample through one effect, and then add another effect into the sample though.

Heres the owners manual, you should check out the last page of the file, as it has a list of all the 99 things it does. http://korg.com/downloads/pdf/KP2_OM_E.pdf
