I want to put Speed Racer in a video editor and chop out everything except the action scenes. The effects in that movie are so amazing.

I agree that all those races are highlights (end of Grand Prix is phenomenal), but those cool "effects" are present throughout the whole movie. I just realized that when I watched it again recently; Wachowski made even that "family building a race car" scene look fantastic. Also, the way they narrated the whole story (first 15 minutes!) is worth a mention as somewhat groundbreaking. I seriously think this is what films for kids will look like 20 years from now.

It's probably one of my favourite movies ever.

Gamer is a big fuck-off to all this, and takes an innovative approach.

The ideas it presents are interesting, too. Here's a great analysis of it.

No, it won't change anyone's mind becuase they are epically shit films. I'd prefer to watch avatar in black and white 2d (so the one reason to see it is voided) than subject myself to those films again (in fairness both got ejected before they got anywhere. Micheal C hall was THE ONLY slightly decent thing about Gamer and even he was shit in it.

put the pipe down, and go play out doors for a while. Might give you some better perspective.

This is just...WOW. One of the best films/documentaries I have ever seen. The cinematography is unbelievable.

The trailer shots I saw looked like they were taken directly from Planet Earth, and I never got the difference between the two.

Imagine the whole series condensed into an hour and a half (the scenes are taken from the series). I know, that sounds like crap but it really isn't. The premise of the film is to follow animals throughout the course of a year and how the seasons affect them and in this, lies the main difference: it tells a story.

If you love the series, you'll definitely love this.

Anyone know any sites where you can enter movie titles you like and it will generate recommendations based on them? There are several for music, so I figured there must be at least a couple for flicks too.

I'm interested in using it to find more British movies, as they seem to be great at capturing that bleak feeling I get from winter (Red Road, Dead Man's Shoes, London to Brixton, etc).

There is a continuation to Planet Earth, it's called Life, and there is even more of the unbelievable cinematography
