I don't think about the why or the how too much, I just remember having a lot of fun producing while stoned. It would definitely put me into the mood, and of course music, in general, is often more interesting and "trippy" on weed.

Sounds like you are to happy with the compressor on the master/kick-bass bus. That pluck could be fitted better in the mix. The transition from 4:40 is... well... there isn't any xD. The idea of the track ain't bad but don't let yourself lured to the dark side of an over compressed mix, for start.

honestly Richard the mix needs a bit of work imo - it has potential tho ill say that. Think you would need a better bassline also

Should the bass note change a bar earlier?
i think the mix is better now - the bass, i cant really hear it properly, in the mid-range and therefore its not really supporting the track enough?
i think you could do better with the track after the break, as one of my mates used to say "if your gonna have a big long breakdown you better make sure it slams back in with something big"
that big lead sound that plays, i was thinking you could just repeat the first 4 notes every bar, while the bass and your other stuff progresses
i think that would give the track a real focus - you could keep the filter closed in the earlier parts of the track and then open it up slightly as the track progresses??

Great calls.
I've changed the bass and the drop, is this more what you had in mind?
EDIT I just made the riser up to the drop less epic and it seems to really make the drop more impactful.

something along these lines is what i was thinking - its just a basic template i put together last 10 mins
the bassline in your track has no drive, there is nothing propelling the track along
i put in a running bassline but a simple offbeat one could also work
so i would start with the bassline, one you have that sorted you can look at the rest of it

I'd have to agree with evo8. The kick and bass are all the way into the background. If they were as solid as the lead sound you would have gotten something quite cool . First of all just put those faders up a bit, then possibly try to accentuate the transients of the kick more so it has more punch. Possibly this could even benefit from a rolling(-ish) bassline.

Although I miss a bit of seperation between instruments and some definition overall, but this is a thing of beauty! I love how spacey it is. Is it finished yet? If you wouldn't mind sharing the track and stemd I'd like to try and give it a spin + try to do a remix on it. I feel inspired because of it haha.
If less is more think about how much more more would be.

Thx!
Oddly enough I had a powerful Michael Woods rolling tech bass in there just before I took it out and replaced it with what you hear now.
I just felt the rolling bass thing seemed old fashioned.
Anyway I agree bass is not powerful enough so will be working on that before going any further.
And thanks Storyteller for your input.
I should have mentioned this latest version was just thrown together at the last moment and I had not at all looked at mix / kick volume etc yet, but even so your comments are a useful pointer.
