Since we do have a fairly strong defense core with Phaneuf, Komisarek, Beauchemin, Shenn and Kaberle, we could get rid of Kaberle in exchange for a decent forward, without really putting a major dent in our defense.
But I agree, if we can trade Finger for a bag of pucks i'd be happy. At least we can free up some more cap space.
Personally, I see no reason to trade Kaberle. The leafs still need a good puck moving defenceman and Kaberle is that. Kaberle is not a defensive D-man....getting rid of him would probably help the leafs D....but he is great at being the point-man of the powerplay. I would keep him just for his ability to make the breakout passes and be the corner stone for the powerplay.
Kaberle has a no-trade clause and Burke has said he will not ask him to waive it. If Kaberle wants to be traded then he has to go to Burke and say so. I don't think Kaberle wants to move...he is happy in Toronto....and for the most part the fans are happy with his play so he stays under the radar.

Getting rid of Karberle isn't a good idea. For what we pay him he is worth way more. One of the best puck moving Dmen as stated before and good for team morale. You never really see him complain, and he rarely takes any penalties. I don't know if burke will get much for him either.
he has a good shot (if he ever takes it) and really sets up the plays on power plays. im happy with him wanting and staying in toronto, and i will be really sad if burke decides to trade him. good morals for burke for not asking him to waive his no trade clause. fergie was the one who granted him and because of the new management burke respects that and will ask not as him. i dont think kaberle wants to move anyway, which is very good.

the worst contract on the blue line is komisarek imo.

Only because he is injured. Finger is getting over 3 mill a year to sit in the press box....Wish I had that job

he can be solid defensively when he wants to (although markov made him look better than he really is).

-9 in 34 games with 4 pts for 4.5 million(5 years)?
12 goals in 7 seasons?
I wouldn't roll out the red carpet for him that is for sure. He is a defensive D-man so I wouldn't expect points from him. The -9 rating doesn't surprise me either....considering he was part of the penalty kill and he plays on the leafs....do any leafs have a plus rating? I find the +/- stat is useless.
That being said...paying over 4 mill for a stay at home D-man...I dont' care how good they are...is completely retarded.

fine then...take it from a guy who has watched him develop since he started playing...if he isn't paired with a fast puck moving defenseman he is just as big of a pylon as Hal Gill
komi can't skate backwards ffs.
just wait until he plays against Lucic...you will be able to tell he is on the ice from the urine everywhere.

You can't really look at the current stats to judge this trade. At this point they are pretty close in stats but you have one player playing probably the best he has ever played and the other playing as bad as he ever had.
Phaneuf needed a change of environment but I don't know if the media crazy Toronto is the right place for him...hopefully it is. Phaneuf is a 45 point per season defenceman and White is a 25 point per season defenceman.
Fair enough. I just hope this pans out well.
I'm glad there's change happening, now it's just a matter of how well it works.
And i hope Exelby gets traded, he's just garbage.
Finger being traded for a bag of new (or used, hell why not) pucks is fine in my book.

he only makes $475,000, so you guys could get maybe a 3rd or 4th round pick for finger. I think a few teams that need a 3rd pair guy would do that.
finger makes 3.5 mill for the year if you are lucky you will get a 4th round pick for him.
Exelby is an UFA so really who cares what they do with him. You might get some used tape for him.
