Right now it appears the leafs management have really dropped the ball. How did the pens, capitals, and blackhawks become solid teams? Through the draft. Leafs have thrown that out of the window with the Kessle trade (it might take a few years to see if it was a bust or not after we get a solid top 6 center)

Burke has to make some serious waves in the off-season to give the fans and player hope for the future. Free agents include Marleau, Jokinen, Backstrom, and Koivu. Those players are in the upper half with huge salaries so we will see what he does.

Pretty exciting game last night. I enjoyed it.

Our guys have speed, now they just need to mature and have more patience.
Kessel is the number one guy who needs to gather patience, though he exercised some off that great play from Bozak in overtime.

Leafs are playing some exciting hockey as of late.

I may start watching full games again, as opposed to simply watching the 6 min recaps.

Kessel has an incredible snapshot. That one play starting from Kaberle to Bozak, up to Kulimen, finished off by Kessel was terrific.

One of our problems that needs to be addressed for next year is beating teams in regulations. We've had too many games go into overtime and shootout. It's like teams have a 30% chance of getting at least one point playing against us.

Kessel has come a long way since December or so.
He's thinking about making plays a lot more than just shooting when he enters the zone with the puck.

And you're right, we need to start winning in reg.

More regulation wins would be nice, but I do like that its no longer a guaranteed loss when they make it to the OT/Shootout.

the leafs always do this. they always pick it up at the end of the season with a small hot streak.

At least this time they are not blowing a decent draft pick.

You lament the loss of our ability to build through the draft, then demand Burke overpays a shitty FA crop to fast track the train to mediocreville.

Backstrom is an RFA and we are physically incapable of making an offer sheet for the next 2yes. Koivu's career as a top 6 forward is done & has been for some time. Jokinen is useless and will struggle to be a 50pter going forward.

Marleau simply is not coming to Toronto, so leave that one in dreamland.

The team is in a state of flux, and Kessel only really cost us a 2011 1st as the 2010 picks will potentially produce @ a similar career clip. (providing they make it)

No amount of UFA signings will magically transform a bunch of sophomore/young forwards into steady, consistent high scorers. Most of them will struggle to top 40-50pts next yr if not the next 2 seasons.

How quick everyone forgets the summer, when the additions of some mid pairing D somehow equaled playoffs. You don't flip a switch and transform a roster by a handful of additions.

Bottom line is it will be 2-4yrs minimum before we can hope for a true contending playoff quality team.
