AWD systems are actually quite different than 4x4 systems. Even though they are all 4-wheel drive, they are very different. A typical 4x4 (like say a Pathfinder or Jeep) has a second gear shifter that has a low and high. AWD systems don't have this. Think of AWD is the go fast version of the 4x4 system.
On that note, I think that Fledz is specifically talking about 4x4 systems, not the AWD systems found on some Audis, BMWs, Mercedes, VW, etc. I could be wrong here though.

yes look wise, and more features than the maxed out Edge.
I just saw an MKX ad the other day, and I was envious of the THX sound and other stuff...I can't wait to get a ride in it!
Planning to bring the wife to MTL soon, will probably stay at a nice hotel downtown but I want to come and visit you and Jewel (and the gorgeous baby of course)! will email...

yeah you're right, I was under the impression that he was using the 4x4 as a generic term to describe anything bigger and higher than a civic.

Like I said, I could be wrong though. He may have been talking in more broad terms as you assumed. I guess we will find out!

Being American you probably missed the somewhat obvious, sarcastic jab of mine to rile up Fledz
Its kind of sad that my sportscar is more 4wd than most modern '4wds' these days as its a constant 40% Front, 60% Rear split that's always set to that and doesn't ever turn off. The Outlander is primarily 2wd, but there's all kinds of cogs, hamster wheels and electronic witchery going on to engage 4wd when its made to, makes it more efficient on the road but when I have taken it on dirt to visit relo's in the country its not too bad.
My favourite though would always be an South African ex-army Landcruiser I had a loan of in Africa, I drove that from Cape Town to southern Zimbabwe, across half of Zimbabwe, into Botswana and all the way back down to Cape Town. (not in one go)
That was some serious off road business + armour!
About as comfortable as being repeatedly kicked in the ass though...

Who the bloody hell pointed out anyone specific? 4x4 are fantastic for what they are designed for and if you need one of course you would have one!
Problem is, and it's extremely rife in Australia, there are just too many of them for absolutely no reason. They guzzle petrol, take up too much space, are dangerous in a crash and when reversing, plus many other things.
I swear every second car in Sydney is a fucking four wheel drive. It's ridiculous.
ps. I'm not talking about AWD. Last time I checked a sedan is not a four wheel drive (ie Jeep, Range Rover etc).

Your such a girl. Men dont need a 4x4 to get across africa, men do it in a Lancia Beta Coupe. And if you know anything about car you know that lancia is a risk to drive even to she shops for a pint of milk if you dont have a mechanic on speed dial, let alone across africa!
