^Those all seem interesting. Thanks for the recs I'll see if I can find any of em.
Recently I've seen:
If you're a fan of Tribe, I suppose the movie'll be enjoyable. I thought it was decent at times. Much of the doc seemed formulaic and contrived to me, tho. Rappaport should stick to what he's maybe somewhat decent at - acting.
Few characters, all of em interesting. Movie was decent and worth a view if the trailer does it for you but, again, not entirely my cup of tea.
Also finally caught Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark. Thought it was a decent flick, much better than any horror I've bothered to check out lately. Seeing the monsters in such detail detracted from the film overall, but it was still pretty strong (disregarding the ending...which I disliked).
Watched this as well (maybe I already mentioned...)
Kitano is really fuckin' fantastic - he can't do wrong by me - and this movie seemed to offer a whole 'nother side of him. Really a stark contrast to the Yakuza stuff that most of us westerners are used to from the master. Dolls was so moving. Borderline melodramatic at times, yet fantastically alive. Beautiful movie.

I saw Terri earlier this year, and thought it was a very well structured movie. A couple of plot holes here and there, and dragged a bit, but overall it was solid. Got to put John C Reilly as one of my favorite actors. He can bring it to the table.
apologies can't find a trailer with subtitles. I definitely recommend this movie. Top all around movie with a nice touch.
Quick Summary: The story of Hiroko, a divorcee, and her son Tomoyo living their lives in Tokyo. They meet Kijima Kasube, a time traveling samurai from the Edo period, who gets sent to modern day Japan by accident. The movie progresses as Kasube tries to adjust to life in modern day Japan, and eventually finds his calling as a baker of exquisite cakes. an enjoyable family comedy.

I've always thought of him as a one trick pony, but I'm coming around.

He tends to get cast in the same roles, which keeps him locked to that crap- Happens with most of the comedy guys really... Which sucks because some of them are actually good actors..
Check out "Cyrus"-- pretty good, bit more serious film he's in

Lol at John C Reilly now being considered a "comedy guy". He never did comedy until a few years ago. Up til then he was always cast in serious roles as a character man (which is why he's so good at comedy, imo).
But I mean, he did finally break through with comedy, so I get it. But still.

snowtown did remind me of animal kingdom in a way, but snowtown in my opinion is better. it has a dark psychological tone and the guy who plays john bunting was pretty good. a couple of violent scenes here and there. the only down point I can see about the film is it went too much in detail in some storylines.
I am sure some Aussie tas here have one story or two about john bunting. I say his motivations were similar to Andrew cunanan in a way, but darker.

I just watched snowtown. I liked animal kingdom much much more to be honest. Maybe that's attributable to the subject matter. I didn't like the ending, really. It seemed so bereft of meaning. Of course I get it - Jamie, the convert...leading some tertiary lamb to the slaughterhouse, but it just didn't seem a fitting end, especially given that the story obviously continued. it made me uneasy at times as well. i do agree that the guy who played bunting was really strong in the role tho.
and leopold - where did you see rundskop? that looks fantastically interesting to me, but I can only find it with hardcoded dutch subs (and it obviously won't be playing anywhere around here...otherwise i'd go)

incredible visuals, animation and story. could be creepy for some but i couldn't take my eyes off it. the sound was a bit here and there, rather quiet in some places but i wasn't watching on a theater setup. worth the watch, on netflix for this interested. scifi

horror/thriller movie festival here in town. Gives me a good opportunity to catch good films outside the US.

i do agree snowtown had some empty parts here and there where it could have improved, and could have delved in more into jamie and john's relationship together, but overall i felt it was a solid film.
