In high school, when I first got my license, it was like pulling teeth to get permission to take my mom's car to school. The first time I was allowed, I got in at the end of the day and the car wouldn't start. I freaked out thinking "Great! Just the proof my mom needs to bar me from ever taking the car again!" so I ran to the auto shop and told the teacher what happened/asked if he could help. He just had this knowing look, and he asked if my car was in park or not. I felt a wave of embarrassment wash over me as I realized that yes, I forgot to put my car in park after I turned the ignition off that morning. Herp de derp!

btw, liquid in radiator reservoir doesn't go into your radiator unless it needs it.

A few years back, I was at a petrol station in the UK, just off the M1 motorway. Starting pumping fuel in there, and this guy on the other pump is just staring at me starts to frown and then goes "are you sure your Mini (classic cooper, not that plastic BWM rubbish), takes Diesel?"
FUCK.
Next hour is spent trudging around desolate countryside next to the services, looking for some hosepipe. Somehow find a garden shed and "liberate" 4 foot of hosepipe to suck out the fuel.
Diesel does not taste good by the way. Oh, and neither does paying for nearly a full tank of Diesel, and then again a full tank of petrol.
And yes, EVERYONE at that patrol station found it highly amusing (except me).

Bahaha, nice. At least I did my embarrassing deed in the privacy of my garage, lol.
(And at least I can play the stupid woman card, hahaha!)

Yep, publicly shamed. I don't actually think there could have been more people at that petrol station at that moment.
Even some woman with a Renault Espace was cracking up at me.
You know you've hit rock bottom when a rotund woman in a food stained tracksuit, wrong side of 50, driving a green minivan is laughing at you.

Don't want to be an asshole, but that is not even slightly correct.
Actually what happens is that
1. engine is turned on and starts to generate heat
2. water in radiator becomes hot and boils (expands)
3. boiling water goes into reservoir
4. engine is cool, remaining water in radiator is now not of sufficient
5. water is pulled down from reservoir. then back to step 2.
I mean, what you said is technically correct, but this 'need' that you mention, occurs pretty much the moment you turn the key. So unless you're talking of a parked car, I'm gonna say you're wrong wrong wrrrong wrongity wrong
Sorry alfie I'm well aware of the contraction and expansion takes place in the coolant system. But didn't feel the need to go into that much detail. I've rebuilt an engine from scratch so I do know a few things about cars but thanks for the refresher.
