A lot of it boils down to, how do you want to route your outs and where do you want to control the volume, software or on the hardware mixer.
The fact he's using send effects makes it a lot more complicated, but I agree with him, Traktors effects have flaws with the wet/dry mix. Certain effects actually increase or decrease the gain, and there's a sweet spot in the Dry/Wet value where it doesn't happen.
Also some effects do different things if you turn off the effect vs turning out the routing of a channel into an effect. Some will fade the effect out, others will jsut cut. They all have their weird nuansinces. It's best to learn a few you like and learn parameter curves. Like the delay for example uses a rotarty to control the speed, but it's not clearly marked where each speed is. You literally have to remember how far your knob has to be to get a value of 1/4 notes over 3/8 triplets. It's kind of a pain in the ass and this is where the "skill" comes into the picture of being a Traktor DJ, it's not always as easy as it looks. |
I get what you're saying, this happens a lot with producing when an effect or another instrumented is layered over, the gain usually decreases on a previous track/instrument if you're not using a compressor or similar device.
The bottom line is that it does take a lot of skill and knowledge to make everything sound good and mesh together well. Obviously mr Liebing has mastered this a long time ago..
