First time going to DEMF. Going in a group of 4. Haven't bought tickets yet but will do soon. Need tips as to where to stay - which hotels? what are the best options around at this point?
Also, my friend has family who have a place to stay in the city but it's a half hour drive from the venue? Is it worth cabbing it everyday to the venue?
I don't mind paying a bit extra to have a solid experience. Given that, looking for some tips and schooling please party people! |
You wanna try to get it now, boko whatever you can, don't pay upfront. But if you can get the reservation, take it.
I usually stay at the Westin or DoubleTree. Both are solid hotels, DoubleTree is pricey, but giant ass suite rooms, two queens and the most comfortable beds and the friendliest staff.
Westin is great as well, use your AMEX if someone has one to get a Starwood discount. That's where Paxahau puts most the guests if you're a groupie. Only double beds, but awesome staff again, great experience, very close and kinda right in the middle for both afterparties and the festival.
CHECK HERE FOR DETROIT HOTELS
Anyways, having a room is amazing, I live 20 mins across the fuckin' Detroit river and I get a room. It's great to go change or shower midday, predrinks, quick and easy to nap it off for a couple hours if need be. If not everyone agrees on festivities ie. afterparties, or stages, you all do what you want, and use the room as a meeting point. Find one in walking distance, no cabs or anything.
Hope you get a hotel, don't be discouraged, many hotels don't open up room till only a month or two before. They tend to release them in blocks and jack the price to get memorial day travellers to book them.

Thanks for all the info! I contacted Westin but that Amex discount only counts for Platinum card holders. I have a gold card with Amex. I'm not that ballin' yet! I've been checking with all the third party hotel websites Hotwire, Priceline and Hotels.com but they don't seem to have rooms with 2 queen beds.
Hopefully this works out. Thinking of just doing 2 days. Saturday, Sunday. Drive back Monday.
