Paulino, I'm afraid I have to agree with clay somewhat (although I'll be less of a dick about it lol).

The best way I can explain it is that your songs seem to be stuck on what should just be the intro to a song. You know how the first few minutes of a song is just percussion, bassline and background noise? That's what the entire duration of your songs sound like. The sounds and mixing are fine, but musically (melodies/harmonies) they don't go anywhere.

How do you approach a song? My guess is you start with drums and bassline first. Instead of doing that, try loading up ONE synth and creating 4 bars of strings. Don't move onto drums or anything else until you have something that sounds great with just that one synth. Then, build your song around those strings. Changing up how you approach stuff like that might break the pattern for you.

I also noticed in the studio pictures thread that you only have a 25 note keyboard. I think that's also part of the problem. Ditch that and replace it with a 49 note keyboard and learn to play the melodies from your favourite songs. Just listening to a song isn't good enough IMO. When you can physically see how a melody comes together (on your keyboard), you'll find a lot of patterns that make it easy for you to create your own. When you start doing theory, you'll realise those patterns are just basic chords and progressions.

Paulino, Forever in Time, much like others pointed out is forever in Time - listener Is teased with an interesting intro, but there is no punchline. Atmospheric feel is great and sounds very polished! Finish that track!

Ok, so, I finally "finished" a track - e.g. laid out all the loops into something that has an outline of a finished product. It's a very melancholy, dark prog/housey/ravey trance. I haven't finished a single track, so I think in this one I was making up for all of it - and it's at modest ~13 mins or so. But it slowly evolves into what I felt was a pretty slick middle and then pretty energetic ending.

It was intended to evolve from start to finish - so, if you can, give it a listen in its entirety and let me know what you think.

Few things I noticed already - there's a ducking that jumps out at one point and dips the volume. I also listened to it on a mono speaker laptop and looks like my "bells" are only 1 channel - wonder how to fix it. Ideas?

OK time for me to join in the fray here. This one's almost finished but I can't for the life of me figure out a good intro and outro. Any ideas? General consensus on the track itself?

Aquila, very cool concept. It manages to remind me of both classic euro trance and modern day anjuna-ish sort of uplifting sound. Some observations: @around 1 min mark - drums overpower melody.

When breakdown comes in - I think the synth you chose may not fit the overall feel. The analogy I am thinking about is: everything in the track up until that point screams: HEY, LISTEN TO WHAT I HAVE TO SAY!!!!!! and then it whispers something not entirely massive. II'm not in love with the detuned synth that comes in at the break and then (I'm guessing same one) around 2:36 mark

The track also feels like it is missing something on the high end - maybe vocals or maybe a melodic lead. Intro/outro seem OK.

Does that make sense?

I went for a soft dynamic mix. Overall I am happy with the end result because I feel it is an improvement on previous songs I have made, and that is what is most important to me at this point (though winning would be cool too!).

damn dude, I was shimmying my hiney to this. I dig a bit of a nod to eurodisco, without having heard the original yet - this sounds very well done and put together splendidly. GOOD LUCK!

Agree with the others, great. The bassline is spot on. My vote is yours.
