I was there! The music was typical SHM, but the visuals and atmosphere was bananas! The giant, moving screen stage setup was amazing just to look at, and they kept introducing more and more elements, lasers, flames, etc. Quite the production.

The Sahara tent was pretty impressive visually also for some of the artists I saw, mainly Afrojack (who I despise musically but had some cool animated custom visuals), and AVICII (who was perched on top of a 3D giant head, with Amon Tobin like Projection mapping). Guetta's visuals were the worst (simplest) which surprised me considering how popular he is.

Wow, as if he did that! What a egotistical sociopath. He probably thought to himself, "I bet I could do anything to these people and they'd still love me."

This video enrages me for some reason.

What are you talking about? You sound like a crotchety old fart who needs to get with the times - this is what the kids are into these days. Besides, anything that exposes cake to a broader audience is a good thing, imho.

If it makes any difference, performers have always done this type of stuff at concerts. Didn't some previous rockstar once piss on the crowd?

Either way, the semantics of these gestures have always been there, from crowdsurfing to launching projectiles into the crowd. So really, maybe its cause we're getting old and can't tolerate this stuff.

Since the consensus is that the visuals are amazing, but the music was meh, can we start putting the visuals crews on the fliers instead (again)?

Hell, they are performing just as much as the DJs are. Manipulating, and mixing premade visual elements to construct a scene, or video.

When I went to see a dj it was never because of the spectacle of it. Shitty how it's come to that lately (if not at least on par with mediocre music) with the more popular ones...if I make it to DEMF (should be a go) I hope it's not super commercialized to where it becomes spectacle for a lot of it.

For all of these festivals lately I just hope things are more well balanced. Digital dreams has some cheese and some decent acts to please everyone.
