should your ability to write well be the deciding factor in getting a job?

quote:
“Grammar is my litmus test,” the C.E.O. of iFixit wrote recently in the Harvard Business Review. “If job hopefuls can’t distinguish between ‘to’ and ‘too,’ their applications go into the bin.”

But grammar often seems to be a low priority in education. A student could pass the New York State English Regents exam by writing: “These two Charater have very different mind Sets because they are creative in away that no one would imagen just put clay together and using leaves to create Art.”

Are schools undervaluing grammar, given that employers may rule out applicants with sloppy writing? Or are these employers being old-fashioned and missing out on some qualified candidates?

SOURCE

There's good writers on here, meaning they pay attention to what they write and how they write it. And... there's awful ones, too.

What do you guys think? Should a grammar mistake cost you the chance of landing a job?

When you read other people's posts on here, do you take how well they write into consideration in deciding whether to take them seriously?

Shouldn't this be "there are"? You wouldn't say "there is awful ones, too".

Why are you here if absolutely all of your posts are about how this board sucks and how it's just gone downhill since Slylee left and oh, things aren't what they used to be, sadface.

DING!

In addition; one should never start a sentence (or in this case sentence fragment with "and."

Also, I think grammar shouldn't be the determining factor in the hiring process, but it should be given substantial weight. People who write like they're a child are just embarrassing, and you wouldn't want someone like that associated with your company.

You forgot a closing parenthesis.

Also, you shouldn't have put a period inside the quotations. That should have gone outside the closing parenthesis that wasn't there.

Edit: And what is the purpose of the semi-colon after "In addition"? In addition can't be its own complete sentence.
