Here is a link to my entry to the Gareth Emery "Eye of the Storm" remix competition (I don't think I can embed it). I posted it less than 24 hours ago and yet have made it to the most listened page (when you can see 50) so I hope to stay on that page the rest of the competition and move up. I ultimately stayed close to my original structure when I posted it as a WIP, because I structured it to flow with the vocals and my first instincts on how it should sound. I went for a soft dynamic mix. Overall I am happy with the end result because I feel it is an improvement on previous songs I have made, and that is what is most important to me at this point (though winning would be cool too!).

I don't know how much of it is loops or whatever, but all I can say is not bad, but there is a lot of room for creating a more sophisticated song structurally and musically.

Thank you trancelover, there no loops on this project fyi. I'm still in the process changing the structure however i will always upload different sides of the project so stay tuned.

Here's my fav WIP so far. I easily reverse engineered two basslines for this one from a classic thrillseekers tune from back in the day.

lol.

is it a new track with the same drums?

it has no content bro. it shocks me that you cannot hear it yourself, nor being able to take the critic you get.

its horrible! just as all your other WIPs. it has nothing.

Paulino, I'm afraid I have to agree with clay somewhat (although I'll be less of a dick about it lol).

The best way I can explain it is that your songs seem to be stuck on what should just be the intro to a song. You know how the first few minutes of a song is just percussion, bassline and background noise? That's what the entire duration of your songs sound like. The sounds and mixing are fine, but musically (melodies/harmonies) they don't go anywhere.

How do you approach a song? My guess is you start with drums and bassline first. Instead of doing that, try loading up ONE synth and creating 4 bars of strings. Don't move onto drums or anything else until you have something that sounds great with just that one synth. Then, build your song around those strings. Changing up how you approach stuff like that might break the pattern for you.

I also noticed in the studio pictures thread that you only have a 25 note keyboard. I think that's also part of the problem. Ditch that and replace it with a 49 note keyboard and learn to play the melodies from your favourite songs. Just listening to a song isn't good enough IMO. When you can physically see how a melody comes together (on your keyboard), you'll find a lot of patterns that make it easy for you to create your own. When you start doing theory, you'll realise those patterns are just basic chords and progressions.
